CLASS TITLE:CORRECTIONAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR - SES

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is work developing, administering and coordinating a correctional program in the Department of Corrections. The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class exercise(s) independent judgment in formulating or assisting in the formulation of policies and procedures which have significant impact in personnel administration and/or preparation and administration of budgets.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Coordinates and approves the participation of inmates in correctional programs, and the transfer of inmates between institutions and facilities, both within and out of state, including the return of parole violators and escapees from other states.
  • Responds to inquiries from law enforcement agencies, courts, legislators, offenders and the public that require complex explanations or administrative decisions.
  • Reviews current operating procedures to determine their effectiveness and recommends revised procedures and policies to ensure efficient operation.
  • Supervises the inmate transfer section for the effective and expeditious movement of inmates.
  • Compiles statistical data for Probation and Parole Services statewide. Some Program areas where data is reported and monthly reports prepared include: Probation and Parole, Pretrial Intervention, Community Control, Cost of Supervision and Victim Restitution.
  • Prepares and coordinates allocation of field staff, reviews and analyzes field input of staffing needs, and provides projections for Probation and Parole Programs.
  • Coordinates activities between the central office and field locations.
  • Develops, implements, monitors and evaluates new and existing treatment and rehabilitative programs within the region.
  • Oversees the construction of new facilities throughout the region.
  • Assists the superintendents of major institutions and community facilities within the region to resolve problems with inmates and pursue effective rehabilitation and treatment results.
  • Monitors, implements and coordinates the department's energy and safety programs within the region.
  • Reviews use of force reports from institutions and facilities and makes recommendations to the Regional Director as to whether use of force was justified.
  • Supervises the development and implementation of training programs within the region in accordance with Department and state rules, policies and procedures.
  • Supervises and coordinates the development and implementation of accreditation activities within the region.
  • Performs related work as required.
