ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is supervisory work maintaining and repairing automotive, construction and heavy equipment, and/or marine equipment. The primary duty of the employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class is to spend a major portion of the time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and having the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward or discipline subordinate employees or to effectively recommend such actions.

  • Motivates employees to improve the quality and quantity of work performed.
  • Plans work loads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.
  • Evaluates employees through establishing evaluation criteria and responsibilities and meeting regularly with employees to ensure the established criteria are met.
  • Trains employees in methods for performing an effective and efficient job.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with employees both individually and in staff meetings.
  • Directs the work of employees to ensure best use of time and resources.
  • Supervises subordinates engaged in the maintenance and repair of automobiles and related equipment; or in the repair and service of boats, marine engines, docks and related buildings and equipment.
  • Schedules and dispatches drivers and equipment.
  • Maintains a variety of records relating to work orders,
  • monthly time reports, and purchase of supplies and repair parts.
  • Inspects equipment for adherence to safety standards and the need for maintenance or repair work.
  • Maintains inventory records, and requisitions supplies and equipment.
  • Ensures that tools and equipment are maintained in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Trains subordinates in the various phases of automotive or marine repairs.
  • Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the principles and basic techniques of automotive repair work.
  • Knowledge of the equipment and materials used in the repair of automotive equipment.

  • Ability to perform a variety of automotive equipment repairs.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles.
  • Ability to inspect and tune up equipment.
  • Ability to assist in body and fender repair work.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
