Class Information and Disclosure Statement
A. Class Description
United States History is a social studies course designed to fulfill the Utah State requirement for junior history. The areas of concentration include political and social institutions, as well as cultural and intellectual development. Topics studied in this class include:

B. Behavior Strategies
In order for students to learn, and assist in the learning of their peers, personal responsibility and social responsibility must be practiced. Students exhibit these responsibilities through their adherence to classroom, as well as school, rules and procedures. Students need to take responsibility for their education and take an active part in the classroom, making their contributions to the class, and interaction with peers, constructive and positive. If they do so they will enjoy a year filled with learning, excitement, and individual growth.
1. Attendance Policy.
Receiving academic credit for this class is dependent upon the conditions outlined in the Bingham High School Attendance Policy.
Absences in excess of 2 per class per quarter, that are not made up or waived through the appeals process, will result in loss of course credit.
2. Tardy Policy.
a. Students must be in their seats on time in order to make the most of the class period.
b. Students who arrive to class 10 or more minutes after the bell will be considered absent, not tardy.
c. After the first tardy, considered a warning, students will receive a 2% reduction from their final grade for each additional tardy.
d. In order to make up any tardies received after the first warning, a student must complete an in-class after school session of 20 minutes.
C. Materials
1. Students will need a notebook for this class. The notebook will be used to keep notes and prepare writing assignments. This should be brought to class every day.
2. Students will need a folder in which to keep all homework and handouts. This should be brought to class every day.
3. Bring a pen and/or pencil every day.
D. Classwork and Grading
1. Students will receive a percentage grade for each of the units completed during the quarter. The percentage grade earned from each unit will be averaged to obtain the quarter grade.
2. Daily assignments and activities will account for approximately 50% of the unit grade with the remaining approximate 50% earned from the final unit tests.
Letter grades are determined by the following percentage scale:
94-100 = A80-82 = B-67-69 = D+
90-93 = A-77-79 = C+63-66 = D
87-89 = B+73-76 = C60-62 = D-
83-86 = B70-72 = C- Below 60 = F
3. If a student is absent on the day of a test, he/she must take the make-up test within one week of the original test date.
4. No retakes will be given for tests.
5. Class work that has been missed due to an excused absence will be accepted the class period following
the student’s return without penalty. In the event of unexcused absences, no credit will be given.
6. Late work is accepted for 50% of the original possible points when turned in after the original due date.
7. Work that is turned in without a name will be discarded.
8. Extra credit opportunities will be offered throughout the quarter. Students may take advantage of any and
every opportunity, however, extra credit points will account for no more than 4% of the total grade. No
extra credit will be added to the grade if the student has a failing grade.
E. Classroom Expectations
1. Respect yourself, respect others, respect the classroom.
2. Honesty in all work. Students are expected to submit all original work and those found to be using the
work of others will receive no credit for the assignment.
3. Students will, at all times, be in accordance with the Jordan School District Dress Code Policy.
4. Cell phones must never be seen or heard in the classroom. Each and every time a cell phone is seen or
heard in the classroom, the student will be penalized 2% of their final grade.
Men do not learn much from the lessons of history and that is the most important of all the lessons of history.
