JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the Director, the Information Systems Administrator coordinates and maintains the City’s technology based information systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinate integration of new systems into existing systems and networks
  • Track and coordinate computer equipment and repair requests
  • Install and configure software applications such as database, spreadsheet, word processing, and graphics programs
  • Assist in the use and trouble shooting of software applications and hardware
  • Update new hardware and software as needed
  • Monitor and maintain the City’s network and website
  • Provide direct support and training to users
  • Prepare user procedure manuals
  • Develop maintenance schedules and records for computer equipment and applications
  • Information service technical support, troubleshooting and repair of user’s computers
  • Backup and restoration of information system critical data daily
  • Maintenance and administration of a web server
  • Preparation of reports and updates of anti-virus to keep user’s informed and protect network
  • Maintenance and administration of network, file servers, mail server and print server
  • Upgrading system – both hardware and software
  • Implementation of new application, addition of new network devices, and installation of software
  • Contact vendors for purchases of new equipment hardware and software
  • Preparation of reports for computers, peripherals and network devices to determine the needs of repairs or addition of new equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Information system technologies
  • Practices and techniques of software use, configuration, and revision; operating systems
  • Word processing
  • Spreadsheet, data base, and teleprocessing system techniques
  • Capabilities, limitations, characteristics, and uses of computer and records information systems; Tools equipment, practices
  • Procedures of repairing microcomputers, computer networks, peripheral devices, and telecommunications equipment

Skills in:

  • Analyzing, designing, programming, installing and maintaining highly technical and complex programs
  • Reading, interpreting, and applying complex technical publications, manuals, and related documents
  • Training individuals or groups in using computer system hardware and software in an easy-to-understand manner
  • Setting up, troubleshooting, and performing routine maintenance on computer systems and related equipment
  • Effectively working with staff members of all computer skill levels
  • Organizing work effectively and efficiently
  • Understanding the organization and operation of the City and of outside agencies as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities
  • Coordinating and working independently in the absence of supervision
  • Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree
  • Two years of experience with software (Excel, Word Perfect, Access, Word), IBM computers, local area networks using Novell, Windows, Windows NT, DOS and UNIX operating systems. Experience with web communication servers is desirable

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license

Working Conditions:

Very frequent – 20+ hours per week:
