Important Features ofPinellas County International Day, 2015

  • No On-Site Registration

In order to ensure a safe and organized day for all International Day participants, we cannot accept on-site registrations of any kind. Please do not allow students to come to International Day unless their names are included on your registration list. If you need to make a last-minute change, you may do so through Jan Kucerik or Leticia Calhoun up until Monday, February 23.

  • Candid Camera Crew

A crew of roaming “candid camera” photographers will be circulating throughout the morning. They will be looking for students in action, involved in hands-on activities and speaking events, wearing apparel or T-shirts relative to world languages. The photos will be compiled into a show to be shared at the closing ceremony.

  • You are Invited to Watch a Skit

Students may watch a 5-10 minute skit performed by their school or another as one of their morning or afternoon activities. The schedule of skits will be posted by the registration desk and on the door of the choral room. Passports will have a place for students to earn a stamp or sticker for attending. Please encourage students to support this activity. (Note: Doors will be closed with no one permitted to enter or leave during the presentations. The schedule of morning skits is printed in the packet. Afternoon session will be scheduled, if needed.)

  • Extemporaneous Speaking in Pairs

Students participating in the extemporaneous speaking division may do so again this year in pairs, if they choose. Students who choose to participate in the traditional way, by speaking solo about a picture, may continue to do so. However, students are encouraged to consider conversing with a friend for the judges as another option. A special (E1-4 pair) ticket will be given to these students, who will be asked to speak to each other based on a conversation prompt. These prompts will be based on the Essential Learnings for each level of study. Samples are attached. Teachers need to know whether students participating in extemporaneous speaking will be participating solo or in pairs before sending in registration packets and should record this information on the tally sheet provided.

  • Pamela Silva Memorial Spanish Summer Immersion Scholarship

WLTA is sponsoring this event in honor of our dear colleague, Pam Silva, and the many years she dedicated to supporting International Day and department activities. Interested students will compete in an essay contest. The winner of this contest will receive a full scholarship to attend this summer’s Spanish Immersion Program at Eckerd College (dates: June 09-13,2015) and will be publicly recognized at International Day. Please post the announcement included in this packet. WLTA and the International Day Committee appreciate you taking the time to encourage student interest in this opportunity. Details on the essay contest will follow.

We Need Help!

All teachers who register for the Pinellas County International Day component (#1004019C)for component points will be asked to serve as a judge, workshop assistant, or committee helper. Teachers with a request for a particular assignment should contact Jan Kucerik or anInternational Day Committee member.

•Any questions? Please contact Jan Kucerik, or a member of the International Day Committee.
