2011-2012 Academic Year

EXECUTIVE BOARD

Below are job descriptions for the CISB Executive Board for the 2011-2012academic year. All Executive Board officers must be enrolled at the UW during all non-summer quarters and cannot study abroad during their term. Students are discouraged from simultaneously serving as both Executive Board officer and Global Business Case Competition Co-Chairs.

Exceptions can be made for highly qualified candidates, so please be up front with plans to study or work abroad. Candidates should be prepared for brief interviews the week of April 25(tentative). All members are expected to attend weekly officer board meetings and contribute to annual strategic planning of the CISB program.

New officers also should be prepared to attend the final 2010-2011Executive Board meetings. Dates and times to be announced. The board meetings will ease the transition process and ensure that goals and plans are clearly communicated among the future officers and current practices are understood. Time may also be set aside for final preparations for the Thursday, June 2, 2011Welcome Picnic, the first task of the new officers.

President

The President is responsible for overseeing the Executive Board, communicating CISB values to the external community through networking, working as a liaison between the student community and the University of Washington business faculty, developing and continuing CISB student and business programs, offering advice to CISB students as needed, and identifying resources. This person will be responsible for facilitating weekly meetings as well as the development of the annual calendar. S/he will also work with executive board members on yearly events to ensure smooth operations. S/he may be called on to arrange speakers and other meetings. S/he will also serve as the CISB liaison to the Business School Undergraduate Business Council, or appoint a delegate liaison.

Time Commitment: 6-9 hours/wk

VP Finances

The VP of Finances will be responsible for all CISB fundraising activities. The fundraising money will be used toward CISB activities and the annual Spring Banquet. Also, s/he will be responsible for bookkeeping of CISB funds and has to contact potential donors for CISB. S/he should have a clear understanding of annual CISB events and important dates in order to plan effectively throughout the year.

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours/week

VP of Marketing—Community Relations

The VP of Marketing will be responsible for communicating periodically with all CISB students though marketing materials, building partnerships between CISB and the corporate world, and raising the visibility of CISB to internationally-focused corporate and non-profit organizations in the community. S/he also may be responsible for writing articles, press releases and advertisements as needed, along with writing and editing for the quarterly CISB newsletter. In addition, s/he may be responsible for organizing one to two all-CISB speakers per quarter. Finally, s/he is responsible for maintaining/updating the CISB Facebook page.

Time commitment: 4-6 hours/wk

VP Social Media

The VP Social Media is responsible for maintaining the internal community website, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter accounts by working with the Executive Board, supporting updates of the external website, disseminating weekly bulletin, suggesting improvements, and other assignments as needed. This is a highly important communications function within CISB, while also serving to promote the CISB culture to all business school students. This position also includes collaboration with the CISB board to implement effective information systems designed to further club initiatives.

Desired Qualifications:

Knowledge of HTML/CSS

Client side programming such as JavaScript/Flash/Ajax is a plus

Server side programming such as PHP/ASP is a plus

Database knowledge preferred

Good graphics skills

Excellent written communication skills

Great organization skills with a strong attention to detail

Ability to manage projects and delegate tasks to assistants

Excited about the purpose of CISB

Open and able to make last minute changes on the website when needed

VP Track Board

The VP of Track Board is responsible for overseeing the Track Board (made up of Track Presidents), which is responsible for planning internal track activities as well as three major inter-track events: International Night (Autumn Quarter), Foreign Market Strategy Competition (Winter Quarter) and Culture Night (Spring Quarter). S/he will be a direct resource to the Track Presidents and Faculty to brainstorm track meeting ideas. In addition, the VP will be the primary liaison between the CISB Officer Board, faculty/staff and the tracks. VP Track Board should be prepared to schedule and host regular meetings with all track presidents throughout the quarter.

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours/wk

VP Alumni Relations

The VP of Alumni Relations is responsible for maintaining the program’s relationships with CISB alumni, and fostering relationship building between alumni and current students. S/he will be responsible for planning events which focus on alumni such as Alumni Night (winter quarter), attending quarterly CISB Alumni Council meetings, increasing networking opportunities between current students and alumni, and identifying possibilities for fostering closer future relationships with alumni.

Time commitment: 3-4 hours/wk

TRACK PRESIDENT

Track Presidents have primary responsibility for the individual track meetings and activities. They are supported by the track advisors and the CISB VPTrack Board. Responsibilities are as follows:

  • Promote track cohesion and communication.
  • Work with faculty advisors to plan and organize track meetings and activities throughout the year. This may include developing class projects, arranging for visiting speakers, organizing field trips, leading discussions and planning cultural activities.
  • Work with other track presidents to create cross-track events.
  • Attend Track Board meetings.
  • Take attendance.

All Track Presidents are required to attend training sessions in spring and/or fall which will focus on such topics as lesson and syllabus planning, discussion facilitation and team-building.
