Cirriculum Vitae

I studied at the Medical School of Aristotle University in Thessalonica in 1981 and got my Medical Degree with Honours

In 1989 after 7 years of training I completed my full residency as a Pediatric Surgeon.

In December 1989 I was appointed as a Senior Registrar B’ at the “Karamandaneion” Children’s Hospital in Patra at the Pediatric Surgery Clinic.

In 2002 I completed my PhD at the University of Patras, Medical School with Honours.

In 1998 I was promoted into a Senior Registrar A’ in the same Clinic.

In 1999 I was appointed as the Director of the Pediatric Surgery Clinic at the “Karamandaneion” Children’s Hospital in Patras up until today.

Clinical Work

Within 1990 – 2008 the Pediatric Surgery Clinic has developed tremendously and it is now staffed and capable of dealing with a variety of Pediatric Surgical diseases.

Over the last 18 years I have performed a series of all types of surgeries (8500) and I am well experienced in Pediatric Surgeries. Furthermore, I have trained a number of residents and young surgeons in my clinic over the years.

Research Experience & Activities

My research activities in Pediatric surgical interventions is a continuous work that includes scientific publications in well recognized Greek and International Journals, Oral and Poster communications in Medical Conferences, membership and organization in Symposiums, Conferences and other types of Societies.

I have gained scientific experience in neonatal surgery and especially in biliary surgeries at the pediatric Surgery Clinic of ‘King's College Hospital’ in London.

I am also a member of the:

1. Medical Society of Patras, the Hellenic Society of Pediatric Surgeons,

2.G.M.C S.R. (British Medical Council – Specialized Pediatric Surgeon),

3. U.E.M.S. (Union of the European Medical Specialists), from which I received in 1997 a diploma from the European Board of Paediatric Surgery (E.B.P.S).

I also have the E.C.F.M.G. certificate of USA (1982) an English Language Diploma (G.C.E. English language) and the EUPSA certificate (European Union of Pediatric Surgeons).

I have a diploma in laparoscopic surgery from the University of Stramburg at the Pasteur Institute.

I am the Supervisor of the Postgraduate Student and Surgeon Augerinos Augeris for his PhD thesis in Pediatric Surgery.

I have scientific cooperation’s with:

a) The Radiology Laboratory of the Karamandaneion Children’s Hospital in a research program involving the investigation of Ultrasound-tomography in childhood acute appendicitis

b) The microbiology Laboratory investigating the correlation of the microbial flora of peritoneal fluid in the vermiform appendix of acute and physiological medical history.

c) The University Hospital of Patras, Rio, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes in particular with Professor Bessie E. Spiliotis in the research protocol of Childhood obesity in primary cultures of adipocytes.

Teaching

The clinic offers full residency (4 years) of Pediatric Surgery during which the doctors are trained in the Outpatient Clinic, in the surgical clinic and in surgery and together they can develop scientific experience by participating in research work and publications of the Clinic as well as experience in various surgical incidences and surgical complications.

1.  I teach the subject of surgery at the Nursery School of ‘G. Papanikolaou’ 1985-86.

2.  I participate as an invited speaker since 1990 at the Post graduates seminars of the Pediatric Clinic at the University Hospital of Rio, Patra.

3.  I participate in modules involving Surgery at the Surggical department of University Hospital of Rio, Patra.

4.  I am the director of Surgical residency in the Karamandaneion Children’s Hospital since 1999 and I am also involved in the residencies of the University clinics of Surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery in the Prefecture of Peloponese.

5.  I am involed in the training of Nurses within the department of pediatric nursing of Karamandaneion Children’s Hospital. .

Managerial Experience

As a director of the Surgical Clinic of the Karamandaneion Children’s Hospital in Patra I have organized and cooperated with various departments of the hospital, together with cooperation’s with other Hospital departments like the neonatal clinic of the University Hospital of Rio, Patra, and the Hospital Saint Andrea.

The surgical clinic is equipped and organized in such a way that it is capable of handling a series of Pediatric surgeries and over the years it has achieved in reducing the time of inpatient care by coping with all the medical treatment in less days.

I have been the President and member of the commission for medical equipment of the karamandaneion Children’s Hospital

Since December 2004 I have been assigned a 3 year placement as the Director of Medical Hospital Services.

From March 2004-2006 I was a board member of the Hellenic Society of Pediatric Surgery.
