PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1SECTION INCLUDES

  1. Metal composite material wall panels.

1.2RELATED REQUIREMENTS

  1. 050513 - Shop-Applied Coatings for Metal: for finish on panels.
  2. 072100 - Thermal Insulation: for insulation installed with system.
  3. 072500 - Weather Barriers: for weather barrier underlayments installed with system wall panels.
  4. 074213 - Metal Wall Panels: for formed metal wall panels.
  5. 079005 - Joint Sealers: for joint sealant installed with system.

1.3SUBMITTALS

  1. Qualification Data: For Installer, fabricator and design engineer.
  2. Test Report: Submit report of full-size mock-up test for NFPA 285 fire performance.
  3. Delegated-Design Submittal: For assemblies indicated to comply with performance requirements and design criteria, including analysis data signed and sealed by the qualified professional engineer responsible for their preparation.
  4. Product Data: Include material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, and finishes for each type of metal wall panel and accessory.
  5. Shop Drawings: Include layouts of panels, details of edge and penetration conditions, spacing and type of connections, flashings, and special conditions.
  6. Show work to be field-fabricated or field-assembled.
  7. Sample: For each panel specified, submit samples of minimum size 12 inches square, representing actual metal panel including material, thickness, profile, color, and texture.
  8. Manufacturer's Installation Instructions: Indicate special preparation of substrate, installation and attachment methods, and perimeter conditions requiring special attention.
  9. Warranty: Submit manufacturer warranty and ensure forms have been completed in Owner's name and registered with manufacturer.
  10. Maintenance Data: For users operation and maintenance of system including:
  11. Methods for maintaining system's materials and finishes.
  12. Precautions about cleaning materials and methods that could be detrimental to components, finishes, and performance.

1.4QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Manufacturer Qualifications: Company specializing in the manufacture of panels specified in this section with minimum 5 years experience.
  2. Designer Qualifications: Professional structural engineer with 5 years of documented experience in design of this work and licensed in the location of the project.
  3. Fabricators Qualifications: Company specializing in performing the work of this section with minimum 5 years’ experience on projects of similar size and complexity.
  4. Installer Qualifications: Company trained and authorized by panel system manufacturer and specializing in performing the work of this section with minimum 5years’ experience.

1.5MOCK-UP

  1. Enclosure Visual Mock-up:
  2. Construct and participate in Enclosure Visual Mock-up specified in Section 014339 - Mockups.
  3. Enclosure Performance Mock-up:
  4. Construct and participate in Enclosure Performance Mock-up and testing specified in Section 014339 - Mockups.
  5. Construct mock-up of 100 sq ft of system, representing finished work including internal and external corners.
  6. Locate where directed.
  7. Mockup may remain as part of the Work.

1.6DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

  1. As required by the manufacturer for a warrantable installation of the installed products to meet the Performance and Design Criteria.

1.7WARRANTY

  1. Manufacturer’s Finish Warranty: Correct defective work within a 20 year period after Substantial Completion for degradation of panel finish, including color fading caused by exposure to weather.
  2. Panel Finish Criteria are listed AAMA 2605.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1MANUFACTURERS

  1. Specification is based on NorthClad ACM Rainscreen System.

2.2DESCRIPTION

  1. Manufactured metal composite material panels for walls and soffits, with insulation, liners, related flashings, and accessory components.

2.3PERFORMANCE AND DESIGN CRITERIA

  1. Design system to accommodate without deformation anticipated thermal movement over ambient temperature range of 100 degrees F.
  2. Structural Performance: Provide metal panel systems capable of withstanding the effects of the following loads, based on testing according to ASTM E 330:
  3. Design and size components to withstand dead and live loads caused by positive and negative wind pressure acting normal to plane of wall as calculated in accordance with code.
  4. Maximum Allowable Deflection of Panel: 1/180 of span.
  5. Pressure Equalization: Provide metal panel systems tested accordance with to AAMA 508-07 -Voluntary Test Method and Specifications for Pressure Equalized Rain Screen Wall Cladding Systems.
  6. Thermal Movement: Provide for free and noiseless vertical and horizontal thermal movement due to expansion and contraction under material temperature range of minus 20 degrees F to 180 degrees F.
  7. Wind Performance: Provide system tested in accordance with ASTM E 330 without permanent deformation or failures of structural members under the following conditions:
  8. Inward Design Wind Pressure: ___ psf.
  9. Outward Design Wind Pressure: ___ psf.
  10. Maximum deflection of perimeter framing member of L/175 normal to plane of the wall; maximum deflection of individual panels of L/60.
  11. Maximum anchor deflection in any direction of 1/16 inch at connection points of framing members to anchors.
  12. Air Infiltration: 0.06 cfm/sq ft of wall area, maximum, when tested at 1.57 psf in accordance with ASTM E283.
  13. Water Penetration: No water penetration under static pressure when tested in accordance with ASTM E331 at a differential of 10 percent of inward acting design load, 6.24 psf minimum, after 15 minutes.
  14. Water penetration is defined as the appearance of uncontrolled water on the interior face of the wall.
  15. Design to drain leakage and condensation to the exterior face of the wall.
  16. Fire Performance: Tested in accordance with, and complying with the acceptance criteria of, NFPA 285; testing performed for previous project is acceptable provided tested system was truly equivalent.
  17. Provide positive drainage to exterior for moisture entering or condensation occurring within panel system.
  18. Provide continuity of thermal barrier at building enclosure elements and continuity of air barrier and vapor retarder seal at building enclosure elements in conjunction with materials specified in Section 072500 - Weather Barriers.
  19. Accommodate movement within system without damage to components or deterioration of seals, movement within system; movement between system and perimeter components when subject to seasonal temperature cycling; dynamic loading and release of loads; and deflection of structural support framing.
  20. Fabricate and finish panels and accessory items at factory, using manufacturer’s standard processes as required to achieve specified appearance and performance requirements.
  21. Factory-install captive gaskets, sealants, or separator strips at panel joints to provide weathertight seals, eliminate metal-to-metal contact, and minimize noise from panel movements.

2.4MATERIALS

  1. Aluminum Composite Material Sheet: Two sheets of aluminum sandwiching a solid core of extruded thermoplastic material formed in a continuous process with no glues or adhesives between dissimilar materials; core material free of voids and spaces; no foamed insulation material content.

  3. Bond Strength: 425 psi minimum per ASTM C297.
  4. Peel Strength: 26 inch pounds/inch minimum per ASTM D1781.
  5. Flamespread: 25 maximum per ASTM E84.
  6. Smoke Developed: 450 maximum per ASTM E84.
  7. Flammability: Self-ignition temperature of 650 degrees F or greater, when tested in accordance with ASTM D1929.
  8. Features:
  9. Overall Sheet Thickness: 4 mm.
  10. Face Sheet Thickness: 0.019 inches, minimum.
  11. Alloy: Manufacturer's standard, selected for best appearance and finish durability.
  12. Finish: In accordance with Section 050513 - Shop-Applied Coatings for Metal.

  1. Metal Framing Members: Section is based on Nvelope thermally broken sub-framing systems. Website . Local rep: Dave Sommer (206) 226-2311
  2. Provide material strength, dimensions, configuration as required to meet the applied loads applied and in compliance with applicable building code.
  3. Aluminum Components: Aluminum extrusions in A-6005 Alloy. Design and Structural Properties: Conform to provisions of 2012International Building Code (IBC) including IBC Section 1604.3.3 and IBC-2012 Section 2211 including applicable referenced AISI specifications and standards.
  4. Stainless Steel Sheet Components: ASTM A480/A480M.
  5. Flashing: Sheet aluminum; 0.040 inch thick, minimum; finish and color to match MCM sheet.
  6. Anchors, Clips and Accessories: Use one of the following:
  7. Stainless steel complying with ASTM A480/A480M, ASTM A276 or ASTM A666.
  8. Steel complying with ASTM A36/A36M and hot-dipped galvanized to ASTM A153/A153M.
  9. Steel complying with ASTM A36/A36M and hot-dipped galvanized to ASTM A123/A123M Coating Grade 10.
  10. Fasteners:
  11. Exposed fasteners: Stainless steel; permitted only where absolutely unavoidable and subject to prior approval of the Architect.
  12. Screws: Self-drilling or self-tapping Type 410 stainless steel or zinc-alloy steel hex washer head, with EPDM or PVC washer under heads of fasteners bearing on weather side of metal wall panels.
  13. Bolts: Stainless steel.
  14. Fasteners for Flashing and Trim: Blind fasteners of high-strength aluminum or stainless steel.
  15. Bituminous Coating: Cold-applied asphalt mastic, noncorrosive compound free of asbestos, sulfur, and other deleterious impurities; 15 mil dry film thickness per coat.

2.5METAL COMPOSITE MATERIAL WALL PANELS

  1. Panels: Formed of metal composite material sheet by routing back edges of sheet, removing corners, and folding edges to form returns.
  2. Features:
  3. Panel Material: Aluminum Composite Material Sheet.
  4. Panel Coverage: As indicated on drawings.
  5. Depth: 1-1/2 inch.
  6. Attachment: Concealed Fastener.
  7. Typical Vertical Joint: 3/4 inch.
  8. Typical Horizontal Joint: 1/2 inch.
  9. Color: As scheduled below.

2.6ACCESSORIES

  1. All accessory materials required by the manufacturer for a warrantable installation of the installed products in a manner that meets the Performance and Design Criteria.
  2. Miscellaneous Metal Sub-framing and Furring: Material recommended by manufacturer for compatibility with panel base metal and conditions present.
  3. Miscellaneous Sheet Metal Items: Provide flashings, trim, moldings, closure strips, of the same material, thickness, and finish as used for the panels.
  4. Include manufacturer's typical parapet cap, window jamb return, metal flashings and reglets, and inside corner and single piece outside corners.
  5. Sealants: As specified in Section 079005 - Joint Sealers.
  6. Concealed sealant must be non-hardening type.
  7. Expansion Joints: Same material, thickness and finish as exterior sheets; 20 gage; manufacturer's standard brake formed type, of profile to suit system.
  8. Trim: Same material, thickness and finish as exterior sheets; brake formed to required profiles.
  9. Anchors: Galvanized steel or Stainless steel.
  10. Miscellaneous Secondary Framing: Light gauge steel framing incidental to structural supports; fabricated from steel sheet.
  11. Profile: Manufacturer's standard profile for conditions present.
  12. Material: As required for material compatibility with panel sheet material.
  13. Fasteners: Manufacturer's standard type to suit application; with soft neoprene washers, steel, hot dip galvanized. Fastener cap same color as exterior panel.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1EXAMINATION

  1. Verify existing conditions meet the manufacturer's requirements before starting work.

3.2PREPARATION

  1. Prepare surfaces to receive work in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

3.3INSTALLATION

  1. General: Install all materials in accordance with manufacturer's instructions based on conditions present.
  2. Where dissimilar metals contact each other or corrosive substrates, protect against galvanic action as recommended in writing by metal panel manufacturer.
  3. Coordinate with installation of associated counterflashings and other components installed under other sections

3.4TOLERANCES

  1. Maximum Offset From True Alignment Between Adjacent Members Butting or In Line: 1/16 inch.
  2. Maximum Variation from Plane or Location Indicated on Drawings: 1/4 inch.

3.5CLEANING

  1. Clean exposed sheet metal work at completion of installation. Remove grease and oil films, excess joint sealer, handling marks, and debris from installation, leaving the work clean and unmarked, free from dents, creases, waves, scratch marks, or other damage to the finish.

3.6PROTECTION

  1. Protect installed work as required by the manufacturer to maintain product performance, design criteria and warranty.
