CICO Scenario # 1:

Student: Here’s my card for today.

Teacher: This is awful! What happened in Science, English and Writing? Don’t tell me you had another bad day!

Student: The teachers don’t like me, especially Mrs. Smith. I didn’t do anything wrong.

Teacher: You say that every day. Excuses! I think it’s time we get the principal involved.

Student: Like that will help. This school sucks.

Teacher: So, you’re being disrespectful in here, too. I’m going to write you up. You better just think about this tonight and get yourself turned around by tomorrow.

Student: (Stomps out)

CICO Scenario # 2:

Student: Here’s my card for today.

Teacher: Thanks for bringing the card to me. Let’s look at your day. Well, you did pretty well in Math, PE and your Elective! 5 out of 6 in Math and PE; and 6 out of 6 in your elective. Now, what is that elective again?

Student: I’m taking Art and I really like that class. We are doing clay right now.

Teacher: I’d love to see some of your work. Now, let’s look at the other periods. What do you think is happening in your other classes?

Student: Science, English and Writing are hard for me and I can’t get my work finished.

Teacher: What can you think would improve your points in the classes?

Student: I don’t know. I guess I could try to pay more attention – I was sitting with my friend and we were goofing off. The work is hard, though.

Teacher: Tomorrow, let’s focus on paying more attention and listening to see if you can do better in class. Maybe you can find another place to sit tomorrow? Also, be sure to ask the teacher if you need help.

Student: OK I’ll try– I think tomorrow will be better.

Teacher: Have a good evening and see you tomorrow! It will be a better day!
