GUIDANCE:
The aim of this Review is to enable a positive enhancement of your ministry, reflecting individual context but not limited to your current placement. By reflecting upon the context of your ministry, reviewing the recent past and looking ahead to the future, and engaging in a review discussion and recording a summary of it, areas for enhancement and development can be agreed and written as a set of goals for the coming year. Support and resources to enable the OLM to achieve their goals can be identified. The Review report lays out the procedure for making a claim from the Resource Grant, and for claiming reimbursement for academic fees incurred.
Preparation: OLM to complete section 1 and circulate.
The Learning and Development Plan template has six sections and two appendices. The OLM and review personnel (the individual to whom the OLM reports and one other appropriate person) should engage with each section. The report should be typed in a normal sized typeface with typed signatures. The report should be agreed by all parties and submitted electronically to the Ministries Council via .

Course/Date attended/Provider
Other relevant achievements: (eg guided reading, working with a mentor/spiritual accompanier, professional qualifications gained etc)
SECTION 2: REFLECTIVE DISCUSSION
Guidance is given below about which areas could form the basis for reflective discussion, but discussion need not be limited to these areas:
*The current role of the OLM and main areas of engagement (refer to written agreement between the individual and Presbytery).
*The possibility of a move to another role, or a change to the existing role ( refer to Presbyery Plan, Local Church Review, Accompanied Review etc).
*The relevance/need/desire for further academic study (or not).
*Areas for development and how these might be met (including timescales).
*General issues eg work-life balance.
Possible questions to enable discussion might be:
In the past year, what have been the most satisfying/rewarding experiences in your ministry? What factors contributed to this?
What experiences of ministry in the past year gave you dissatisfaction/were not rewarding? What barriers/problems have you faced, and how have you overcome them? What would you do differently next time?
What have you learned - about yourself, other people, God and God’s calling to you and God’s work through you?
How would you describe your spiritual life over the past year?
What do you want to improve/build on? How? What support will you need to allow your ministry to develop (eg self, Presbytery, peers, Ministries Council etc).
Note: Year Two onwards should include a question relating to the goals from the previous year eg How far have you achieved the agreed goals at last year’s review? Achievements should be summarised, and ongoing goals noted.
Note: Goals should relate to your areas of engagement in your ministry eg worship, pastoral work, mission and outreach, working in a team, church courts, preaching.
Notes of discussion:
SECTION THREE: GOALS

Goals should be SMART (specific, meaningful, achievable, relevant/realistic , and time-bound).

APPENDIX ONE – RESOURCE LIST 2014
The Ministries Council can support you in your Continuing Ministerial Development. You will find below examples of resources which are available this coming year. This is not an exhaustive list, and you may have identified and agreed other appropriate resources in your discussion. This list will be expanded and updated each year.
ACADEMIC STUDY: The core areas of theological study are Biblical Studies (Old and New Testament), Church History (including Scottish Church History), Pastoral Care, Ethics and Worship and Liturgy. Other areas which could be appropriate would be Religious Studies and Languages.
RESOURCES: There is a wide range of Resources available. Some suggestions are listed below.
CONFERENCES:
Conferences organised by the Ministries Council (contact person is Anne Law ) include those for Readers, Auxiliary Ministers, Ordained Local Ministers and Ministries Development Staff. Some of the themes may assist you in working towards your identified goals for the coming year. For the avoidance of doubt, an OLM is required to attend one of these conferences every 2 years – the full cost of this is borne by the Ministries Council and no claim needs to be made. If an additional conference is identified as meeting an identified goal, then a claim for this should be made via the Resource Grant Claim Form.
Conferences organised outwith the Ministries Council – Mission and Discipleship Council, World Mission Council, other external bodies.
