Principal’s Message

From the Principal:

Spring is a wonderful time of year and with it comes even more demands on your children’s time and your time. Longer days, more time outside, baseball, lacrosse, softball and family picnics can make it harder to maintain the effort it takes to do a good job with school work.

As you know May brings testing and once again our 3rd, 4th and 5th grades will be taking end of year PARCC Reading and Math assessments. The schedule is included. Please make sure that your child (ren) is/are present, well- rested and at school by 9:10 a.m.

We have included the calendars for May and June in this newsletter. Our students are hard at work practicing for our Spring Musical, “The Wizard of Oz”. Please put the June show on your calendar and thank you in advance for all your help with practices, costumes and all the rest.

STUDENT REPORT CARDS COME HOME ON THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL. ALL IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR AUGUST, 2016 WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE REPORT CARD.

Cordially,

Judith Callanan Devlin

Math Facts Mastery

This has been a banner year for our children in Math. Over 95% of our fourth and fifth grade students have mastered all of their addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts in a timed setting. This success was made possible by the effort, and the support of parents and staff.

Another byproduct of this endeavor was the pride of accomplishment our children felt after completing all 6 levels of this task. Please look for math facts reinforcement packets to come home and to be completed over the summer. We hope to continue the facts mastery program next year.

Thank you.

4.  In the absence of a doctor’s order a parent/guardian can come to the school and administer the medicine.

5.  Students may not carry medicine (for e.g., Tylenol, inhalers, etc.) unless their doctor has written that on the order.

DISCIPLINE SCHOOL RULES

All students will be given a Student Handbook during the first weeks of school. The Code of Conduct was also introduced to our students. Each afternoon teachers will conduct lessons that will encourage our students’ success with this program and your children will be talking about it at home. Each night your child must have their daily calendar signed by you. Take time to discuss their success as well as to address those areas of their behavior that might need some attention. A parent handbook for the Code of Conduct was sent home for you to review with your child. After you have done so, please sign the parent page and send back to school. The Behavior Handbook was reviewed with all students by the Principal and the Assistant Principal. Students will return a signed page of the handbook that indicates that each child’s parent/guardian has reviewed the handbook. Church Lane has high expectations for student behavior. The school rules are explained to our students and each week all of our students have the opportunity to be part of the Friday Reward Celebration.
