C.Introductory Statement about Church

Mission Statement

First Presbyterian Church seeks to glorify, know and enjoy God as we...

● Proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in all that we do;

● Grow in our knowledge of Christ through the study of Scripture;

● Demonstrate the love of Christ to one another and in the world.

Church Overview

1

“As I arrive at the First Presbyterian Church, I marvel at the majestic quality of its buildings. The beautifully aged brick, tall white columns and towering steeple on the manicured grounds give a stately appearance. From our steeple, which has dominated the Fayetteville skyline since 1816, comes the moving sounds of the carillons which can be heard several times daily throughout the downtown area. The church is perched on a small hill with a set of lovely brick steps leading to the large double doors which open into the vestibule. I have never pushed open those heavy doors when someone wasn’t on the other side to greet and welcome me.”

1

These lines were written by a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church of Fayetteville. Each phrase offers an intimate introduction to this great congregation, known for its history of faithfulness, its Christ-centered worship and mission and its hopeful future.

The congregation is composed of all ages, sexes and races, including many who are native to Fayetteville and some whose families have been members for many generations. Having survived war, fire and other hardships, the church continues to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ as it has for 213 years. Spiritual growth comes through meaningful worship, outstanding music ministry, thoughtful education and many outreach programs.
