Article 1 Chung Hua University (CHU) may offer summer courses. Guidelines for Summer Courses (the Guidelines, hereinafter) are formulated by the University in accordance with Article of 28 of University Act and Article of 29 of CHU.

Article 2 Qualifications for enrollment: Students shall abide by guidelines made by each department for summer courses. They shall not enroll in required courses for upper classes beforehand.

Article 3 Each department shall be commissioned to appoint instructors for subjects approved for summer courses and shall submit the documents to Office of Academic Affairs three weeks before summer session program to be implemented. Applicants shall register at his/her department during designated period of time.

Article 4 Each course may commence with a minimum of 20 students. However, each course shall be divided into classes if the number of students is over 60. Students are unable to choose the class.

Article 5 A maximum of two six-week sessions may be offered during the summer term. For each credit, students should complete a total of 18 class hours (including mid-term and final examination).

Article 6 The rules in this article applying to those who, provided they have the approval of related department, school, or degree program, are eligible for enrolling in summer session programs at other universities are as follows:

1.  Required courses students have previously taken are failed and are not offered by the University.

2.  Two courses, offered by the University, are schedule-conflicting.

However, after course selection, students who fail to pay their fee or attend classes in other universities shall receive a grade of zero.

Article 7 Students shall enroll in summer courses with maximum of 10 credits. In addition, for those who are qualified according to Article 6, shall apply for summer session program at other universities. However, the total number of course credits taken at CHU and other universities shall not exceed 10 credits.

Article 8 Students taking summer courses shall pay all required course fees and complete procedures of course selection. No registered student who have paid their fees may apply for a refund of course fees once the University has formally announced that the course will be offered.

Article 9 In principal, the University’s summer courses are offered to CHU students; students from other universities may apply to take these courses the approval of their universities.

Article 10 The rules governing performance evaluation of students taking summer courses are as follows:

1. Regardless of whether a student has passed or failed, whatever grade a student has received in a summer course shall be recorded in the student’s annual transcript.

2. Credits earned from summer courses shall not be included in the calculation of semester credits; nor shall the grades received for these courses be included in the calculation of the semester grade point average. However, both the number of credit hours and the grades earned from summer courses shall be included in the calculation of the cumulative grade point average recorded in the student’s final transcript.

3. Those who receive failing grades in summer session program are unable to take make-up examinations.

4. Rules unstated are in accordance with CHU Academic Regulations.

Article 11 Any matters that are not regulated shall be administered according to CHU Academic Regulations and relevant rules.

Article 12 These guidelines should be approved by the Office of Academic Affairs, published and implemented upon approval of the President of CHU and ratified by the Ministry of Education to take effect, as should any amendments to them.

The Chinese version of the document shall prevail in case of any discrepancy or inconsistency between Chinese version and its English translation.
