Christmas Fair and Carol Singing

A reminder to all parents, relatives and friends that our Christmas Fair will be taking place on Friday 14th December between 1.30pm and 4pm in school.

During the course of the afternoon, each class and the school choir will be singing in the hall.

We still need volunteers to help at the fair – if you can spare some time please contact Lori Thomson on 07950 032889 or .

Donations will be gratefully accepted for the bottle stall, chocolate tombola and the cake and candy stall.

Although the fair will be running until 4pm, it is the responsibility of parents to look after their children from 3pm onwards or to ensure arrangements are in place.

Milk

We are able to provide milk to pupils on Wednesdays, priced 30p per carton; order forms have been given to children, check school bags. All orders should be returned no later than Friday 14th December. Orders received after that date can not be accepted.

Christmas Parties

Dates and timings of parties are listed below - children are welcome to bring party clothes to school to change into before the start of their party.

Church Service

Our Christmas service this year will take place on Friday 21st December at 9.30am in Melrose Parish Church, led by the Primary 5 class. A collection will be taken for the school’s chosen charities - Guide Dogs for the Blind, Scotland and Aberlour Children’s Charity, Scottish Borders. All are very welcome to attend.

Christmas Trees

Thank you to:

·  Mr Willie Kerr, Treeforce, for kindly donating a Christmas tree for the school foyer. Christmas trees are available from Mr Kerr at Millmount Farm, Newstead. Nordmann Trees from 5 – 8ft, delivery within 5 mile radius of Melrose. To place an order or to arrange delivery call 01896 822467.

·  Mr Alan McVicker, Rhymers Glen Trees for donating two trees for the Annexe building, one for the Big Space and one for the entrance area. A large selection of trees, stands, wooden reindeers and wreaths are available, from 1st to 24th December. Local delivery available, open 9am to 7pm daily – just follow the signs from the Borders General Hospital. For further information call 01896 822141.

Chess

Urgent request for a helper to teach and support a group of children to learn and play chess – this could be at a lunch time or after school. There is a competition in February 2013 to which we would like to enter a team - we do not have a member of staff who is able to teach chess. If you can help or would like further information, please contact the school office.

Huntly Road

We are extremely concerned about the number of cars that are using Huntly Road to drop off and collect their children at the beginning and end of the school day - Huntly Road should not be used for car access as it is designated as a safe route for pupils walking to school. The designated parking and dropping/collecting points are the Health Centre Car Park and MRFC car park.
