Dear Dr. Chan

Invitation

We are the business communication class at Chu Hai College of Higher Education. Our whole class takes great pleasure in inviting you to come and share with us your unique approach to education, your valuable experience of running an unconventional school, and your…how should we put it? atypical outlook on life.

Actually, we want to learn more from you, sir, including your own very interesting life. To write this letter, we have done some googling on you. We realize that you were not a particularly good student gradewise. You had a tendency to ask a lot of questions to your teachers, and for this “habit”– by the way, we think this is a good habit, student or no student – you were sort of branded by your teachers as a “bad” apple. Perhaps this labeling had somehow discouraged or dampened your inquisitive spirit. So you responded by repeating Form 4, and didn’t get good enough grades to advance to Form 6. Then you went over to Canada to get your Bachelor’s degree in chemistry and mathematics. We figure that it was probably during this time that you had a turn for the better. Perhaps you found your goal for life there, then. If so, how? If not then, when? We believe your story would definitely enlighten and help some of us, who are still looking for our goals for life.

Every time we see you on TV or read about you and your school on newspapers, we see someone with that disarming smile, wearing that very chic goatee. Now that is a very demanding fashion. Not too many people can wear it and look good -- and you certainly look damn good on it! So we want to know how this very chic principal runs

his unconventional school. How do you give a second chance to some of the young ones who, for some reason or another, have gone astray? As an educator, you have the mission of bringing your students back to the right path, helping them to reach their potential. Have you succeeded? What difficulties have you encountered along the way? What lessons can you share with us?

Many of us are working part-time as tutors to young students. Some of us will go into the education field after we graduate. Your advice is not only timely, but we believe we will learn a great deal more in you as a person. We do hope we can have the good opportunity to listen to your kind, smiling enlightenment.
