Term 4 in Tigers

Truly Scrumptious!

Our learning journey this term is all about food. We introduced the topic on Tuesday 21st February with our Tiger Breakfast Café, the children chose from a menu of croissants, pain au chocolat, orange juice and apple juice. Mrs Ringer and Mrs Fernandes took orders and served the food, it was great fun! We are now getting to know the story ‘The Papaya That Spoke’, the children will spend time retelling the story and adding actions before starting to invent their own stories. Our role play areas have been chosen, and created, by the children and they are already taking on their roles in the café and shop. As the term progresses there will be lots of opportunities for cooking and or course sampling many types of food.

Mathematics

As well as continuing with careful counting, addition and subtraction, this term we will also be thinking about time and money. Time will be related to when we eat and telling the time to the hour on an analogue clock, money will be essential in our role play areas and we will focus on recognising coins up to 20p. Anything you can do at home would be a great help, noticing what the time is as you eat breakfast, lunch or dinner perhaps. Or counting out the money needed to pay in the shop.

PE and letters

This term we have PE on Monday and Thursday. On Thursday afternoon we may be outside, please could you provide tracksuit bottoms or similar for warmth

Please do check your child’s bag for any letters, the eldest child in each family receives newsletters and other whole school correspondence. The newsletter is also posted on the school website.

Phonics and Spellings

In our phonics sessions we are learning how to recognise the phoneme (sound) as well as recognising the grapheme (written letter). We are now learning digraphs and trigraphs, the sounds made by two or three letters working together

Some fun phonics games can be found at

Very soon your child will bring home a spelling book. Please could you spend time learning them at home. The idea is not to ‘test’ the children but to encourage them to recognise and use the words they are learning when reading or writing. Mrs Fernandes and Mrs Noakes will share the books with you during parents afternoon.

Ask me about sheets

Every so often we will continue to send home an ‘Ask me about’ sheet. The idea is to prompt discussion about what we have been doing at school. We will pick an area or two that we have been focusing on to go on the sheet. It would be great if you could chat to your child about what they have been doing in school and jot down their thoughts on the speech bubble. We can then add these to their learning journeys.

Many thanks for your continued support,

MrsFernandes, MrsNoakes and Mrs Ringer
