COURSE INFORMATION Title: Spanish IICredit: 1KDE Valid Course: 161109

Description: Spanish II is offered as part of the pre-college curriculum. (Two years of the same language are required and must be taken in order). Students will review and build upon the grammar and vocabulary learned in Spanish I. Additional verb tenses, vocabulary and more advanced grammar are presented. Students will continue to study the geography, history, and culture of the Spanish-speaking world.

Course CompetenciesStudents who successfully complete SPANISH II will be competent in the following areas:

●Gender/number of nouns and agreement with adjectives

●Ser/estar and tener

●The many uses of IR

●Regular –ar, -er and –ir verb conjugation

●Stem changing verb conjugation

●Preterite and imperfect verb conjugation

●Various vocabulary and cultural themes

All courses in Christian County High School will be set up on continuous grading. All classes will be set up on total points with no multipliers on assignments.

As percentages, the grades are as follows:

●Coursework assignments as listed below= 80%.

●Comprehensive Midterm Exam = 10%,

●Comprehensive Final Exam = 10%

The following assignments will be used:

●Tests/Projects-100 points max (approximately 2 per 9 weeks)

●Quizzes-50 points max (approximately 6 per 9 weeks)

●Classwork/Homework-20 points max (approximately 10 per 9 weeks)

A teacher may give more than the above mentioned tests, quizzes, classwork/homework.

Excused and unexcused absences are determined by Policy 09.123 set by the Christian County Board of Education. Students receiving an excused absence shall have the opportunity to make up school work missed for the days excused. The procedure for make-up work in this classroom is:

●ANYTIME a student is absent from class, the STUDENT is responsible for knowing and understanding the material that was covered, getting notes from a classmate, inquiring for copies of materials missed, etc.

●It is the RESPONSIBILITY of the STUDENT to inquire and make arrangements for all makeup work.

●It is highly recommended for a student’s work to be collected before a scheduled absence as well as during an extended absence. This can be arranged through the guidance department, via teacher email, or through student notice. At least a day’s notice is requested.

●The student is allowed as many days to make up work as he or she were absent. This does not exempt students from due dates on previously dated assignments, projects or tests. If there is no communication of intent to make up the work, “missing” will be entered as the grade. However, I am a VERY reasonable person and I understand that you have 7 classes. So, if you talk to me, we can make arrangements for the make-up work. If there is no communication, “missing” will be entered as the grade.

●Any work that is not handed in by a student will be marked as “missing” and students will be given the opportunity to make-up this work.

●It is the student’s responsibility to obtain secondary copies if necessary in order to complete missing assignments. They have three days after the original due date to turn in missing assignments for 5 points off total credit before the missing grade will be referred to Colonel ICU.

●No zeros are permitted. Any missing assignments that cannot be negotiated between Ms. Thomas and the student will be referred to ICU and completed by the students in ICU either during school or after school.

Cheating is defined as the giving or receiving of illegal help on anything that has been determined by the teacher to be an individual effort. If you are having trouble with this class, come to me immediately and I can work with you. If you wait till the end of the marking period, it will be TOO LATE. I will be available to help you understand so you can be successful in this class.

I will offer tutoring at student request after school.

After school tutoring is offered through our ESS program on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting September 20th.
Colonel ICU begins September 21st.
