Christ Our Savior Catholic School

Greetings From Your Parish School

Throughout African-American Heritage Month, teachers worked on class projects with the students based on one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa. On Thursday, February 28, the F.O.C.U.S. (For Our Continuing Unyielding Success) group along with co-founders Melanie Sharpe and her son Jordan Williams planned an evening celebration to acknowledge famous African Americans in history. The evening consisted of tributes, songs, poems, African-American food and trivia games. Class projects were on display for viewing.

On Wednesday, March 6, the fourth and fifth grade students were treated to a special presentation called “Agriculture in the Classroom.” The presenter was Mrs. Toni DeLaurentis who is a teacher with the Cook County Farm Bureau. The students learned many interesting facts about farming such as agriculture is the #1 industry in Illinois. They also were able to see and touch some of the seeds and grains that are a part of Illinois agriculture. He students were introduced to the word “agribusiness” which helped them to realize that everyone is related to agriculture in some way. The lesson ended with a movie about agriculture in Illinois. Grade 4 will extend this lesson with their new Project Based Learning titled “Where Does Food

Come From?”
