Wisdom Integrity Leadership Dedication
Lesson #1: Wisdom
2
Objectives: Students and teachers will be able to identify behaviors that demonstrate the expectation of Wisdom in the different school settings as outlined in the Go WILD teaching matrix. In addition, students and teachers will be able to identify and explain possible outcomes for positive behavior.
Materials: TV tuned into 73 for Wisdom video, Discussion Questions, Go WILD Matrix, Incentive Examples
Procedure:
• Introduce your advisement to the day’s topic by asking students to define the word “Wisdom” in their own words. Refer to the objectives listed above to further outline the day’s topic for students.
• Tune TV to 73 at 9:10 AM.
• Lead the class in a discussion regarding the video using the discussion questions listed on the following page.
** Note: Students may indicate that the Go WILD is unnecessary, since students
already know how to behave in school. This is a good springboard for discussion
and student input regarding the general behavior of students in the school. A
discussion may begin like this:
Student: Why are we doing this? We already know how we’re supposed to
act in school.
Teacher: I understand what you are saying, and I agree that many students know how to act in school. But let me ask you: Do students really act this way? For example, has your class ever been disturbed by loud noise or vulgar language as other students change classes? How did that affect your class’ lesson?
Entertain students’ ideas and questions. One of the key purposes of PBIS is to
build dialogue and relationships between students and teachers, and a discussion
such as this may give students a chance to express their opinions about how they
believe students should act.
• Show students copies of the different incentive cards (WILD Card, Cafeteria Coins, Bus Bucks). Explain how one might earn an incentive card and what they should do if they receive one.
** Note: Some students may find the incentive cards juvenile or unnecessary, and may vocally object to them. Again, this is an opportunity to discuss their opinions and suggestions. Several talking points here include:
- Point out that the rewards associated with the incentive cards may be of interest to them, such as gift certificates, Wildcat gear, free beverages, and money off purchase in the cafeteria.
- Discuss other rewards that may be used, such as a letter of acknowledgement for students who achieve a high number of incentive cards. Letters of commendation are vital for college or job applications, so all students can use them to further their future careers.
- Remind students that they set the tone for the school. Ask them what type of school they would like to attend – one in which the focus is punishment or rewards. Perhaps a general setting of teachers acknowledging good behavior would be a better place to go to everyday than a place of constant negativity and punishment.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Please use the following questions to guide a discussion about the video with your advisement students. Feel free to tailor the questions to draw on specific video scenes as you see fit.
- Have you seen behaviors similar to those on the video (either positive or negative) in our school? What messages do these behaviors send? What impact do negative behaviors have on our school as a whole?
- What other positive choices could have been made in the video when (specify a specific scene)? Remind students that in every situation there are a few negative choices they can make and oodles of positive ones! However, a positive choice is not necessarily the easiest to make. Why is that?
- What challenges do you face in meeting the “Wisdom” expectations or in helping others meet the “Wisdom” expectations?
- Why do you think we have behavior expectations in our school? What are the advantages of having these expectations and having them positively reinforced?
- Using the Go WILD teaching matrix as your guide, lead a discussion on how “Wisdom” may look in different school settings (especially those not covered in the video).
