Unbarred

  • Workshops going well
  • Whatton asked to another workshop
  • Emmanuel House confirmed wanted them to do a workshop - 7th Dec. Take volunteers already who have done an Unbarred workshop- potential for Streetlaw to expand on what Unbarred are doing at Emmanuel House (housing/employment/CV writing)
  • Meeting with Volunteer Centre about safeguarding tomorrow
  • Next workshops:
  • 2nd December - Sudbury
  • 7th December – Emmanuel House
  • 15th December - Whatton
  • 16th December - Sudbury
  • Volunteers for early January and February.
  • Women’s Centre: potentially deliver session for the staff
  • Werrington - still waiting for student DBS check

Streetlaw

  • Pro Bono in Commercial Law – Tuesday 29th 6.30pm to set up, otherwise 7pm
  • Record name, email address and student number of attendees at the door for Pro Bono Achievement Award.
  • Contacted about showing film about North Korea and a speaker (North Korean refugee)– to run next term

Howard League

  • Tuesday 13th December – last trip to Wathwood Hospital. Deadline 5pm Friday
  • Two more talks
  • Wednesday 7th December LG11 Trent – Access to Justice and Prisons. Tickets £1.
  • Monday 12th DecemberA1 LASS -Philosophy of Punishment. Tickets £1.
  • Potential opportunity for students writing letters to prisoners

JLAP

  • Fundraising –collecting books
  • Bake sale Wednesday 10am–raising money for sending books to Sudan
  • Oxfam Carol Concert coming up soon

Treasurer

  • Didn’t get Widening Participation but future support offered
  • Treasurer to draft proposal for sponsorship by Browne Jacobson

OutLaw

  • Derby Moor Sports Community trip last week a success – interested in future sessions
  • Volunteers allowed to drive to trips
  • Mock Trial – Wednesday 7th December. 2 positions left to fill
  • Mock Trials Initiative – a few schools interested – hoping to start in February

Aspire

  • Into University – second trip a success
  • Last Aspire trip – Wednesday 30th November, then nothing until January/February

First Year Rep

  • Ellie to put posters up and to run surveys for volunteer feedback – potentially volunteer specific

A2J

  • Project launched – introductory talk last week. Applications closed on Friday, team of volunteers picked. Meeting at end of this week with them.
  • Dan to contact Widening Participation team.
  • Cascade Fund grant being applied for – Ellie and Emily to assist

President

  • Everyone to send Ellie list of trips and volunteer numbers
  • Josh to print out attendance sheets and put in the office
  • Everyone to write a brief statement about successes of your project for the newsletter to sum up for the term – by Saturday 3rd December
  • Keep taking photos of trips
  • Thursday 1st December 4-7pm Crafts Fair – help set up from 3.30pm if possible
