The staff of CES anticipates another great year of learning. Our focus is on safety and academic achievement. School procedures and routines are well established and practiced to ensure that all students can achieve success.

Chipman Elementary would like to thank Robert and Heather Manuel for donating the ice cream for our “Meet the Teacher” event. As always, we appreciate their support.
Thanksgiving Dinner:
On Thursday, Oct. 5th, the students and staff of CES will share a turkey dinner with all the fixings. During this time we’ll have a short program to celebrate the learning and successes that we have experienced since our start up in September.
Safe Schools Week:
Students will practice safety procedures for Fire Drill, Lock Down, Alternative Site Evacuation, and Bus Evacuation during this week to be prepared in case of an emergency situation.
Hot Lunch:
Please note the following change to the hot lunch menu. Grilled Cheese will be replacing corn on Mondays starting Oct. 16th. All other hot lunch menu items will remain the same.
School Supply $:
If you have not already done so please forward your $40 school supply fee to your child’s homeroom teacher as soon as possible. Please contact your child’s teacher if you would like to set up a payment plan or let them know when this fee will be paid. Thank you

The PSSC meetings are open to both members and non-members. First meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 17th at 6:00pm.
Double Birthday Celebrations:
On Oct. 19th, students and staff will be celebrating Chipman Elementary’s 50th Anniversary and Canada’s 150th Celebration. There will be bouncy castles, a BBQ and cake for our students. At 1pm, the Suitcase Theatre Tour will present their production “All Aboard”, which is a 55 minute interactive musical about a journey across Canada. Between 3:30-4:30, Chipman Elementary will open its doors to the public for anyone wishing to tour our 50 year old school.
Spookarama:
On Oct. 26th between 6:00-7:00pm students are invited to bring their families and friends to CES for some fun Halloween activities. There will be games, prizes, food and fun. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The price is $3.00 per child. We strongly encourage everyone to dress up in a Halloween costume. Spread the word and come out to have some fun. We’ll graciously accept donations for children’s treat bags. If you wish to donate send the candy in by Oct. 24th. All proceeds raised at this event will go towards school activities. Items that are peanut free are preferred as we have a student with a peanut allergy.
2018 Kindergarten Registration:
Kindergarten registration for children born in 2013 will be held at the school from Tuesday, October 10th to Friday, October 13th during regular school hours. Kindergarten attendance is compulsory for all children who reach the age of five years on or before September 1, 2018. Children who reach the age of five years between September 2nd and December 31st, 2018, inclusive, are eligible to begin Kindergarten in September 2018, but attendance is not compulsory. Parents of these children may defer the entry into Kindergarten of these children until September 2019.
Please bring your child's Medicare Card, Immunization Record and Birth Certificate.

IS IT A COLD or THE FLU?
The Flu also known as influenza is a contagious respiratory illness. The flu is different from the common cold. Flu symptoms come on suddenly and may include: fever, headache, general aches and pains, tiredness, runny or stuffy nose, cough and sore throat. Symptoms of a cold are usually milder and generally do not result in serious health problems.
Did you know?
· The flu can be spread easily from person to person through coughing, sneezing, or talking
· The spread of the flu can be through direct contact with objects contaminated by the influenza virus
· The flu is a common infection of the airways and lungs that spreads rapidly
· The influenza vaccine is FREE for children up to 18 years of age at the pharmacy, health clinic or doctor’s office
Tips to Remember:
· Wash your hands frequently
· Regular cleaning of doorknobs, telephones, and keyboards can help
· Cover up when you cough or sneeze
· If you are sick please stay home
