1.0 Hampshire County Youth Conference – The Local Offer
1.1 The event held on the 10th of January was attended by 73 young people who were consulted on communication and aspirations, key headlines from the conference included:
o The majority of young people consulted want to get their information from the Internet and family members. They identified they would go directly to other venues dependant on the nature of the information required
o Some young people identified difficulties using the councils website or they didn’t know where to look for the information in the first place
o Young people would like an ‘app’ to be developed that they could use to access information that is clear and easy to use
o The costs involved in achieving their aims were a barrier for some of the young people consulted
o The majority of young people had a range of high aspirations for the future
o Young people identified they would like extra help, more reassurance and support with their confidence to enable them to achieve their aims
1.2 The conference was planned and delivered in partnership with KIDS, Osborne School and Parent Voice. Adult services and CCRA departments also sent staff to support. The Short Breaks team, a CDF and a member of the SEN team helped facilitate on the day.
1.3 A full report will be available with further information and feedback highlighted within it – this will be disseminated to colleagues and relevant boards.
2.0 Broader Pathfinder Developments and Next Steps
2.1 Participation Officer has met with Adult Services to provide support, advice and guidance with regards to a young people’s reference group that will feed into the transition board.
2.2 A paper is being prepared by Adult Services to outline the proposal and seek approval.
2.3 Participation Officer met with CCRA to provide support, advice and guidance with regards to young people’s involvement in the Inspiring Inclusion Conference, which is for mainstream and specialist recreation and leisure activity providers, both managers and front line staff.
2.3 The conference will include young people from special schools and KIDS and provide an opportunity to share best practice and their experiences in order to affect positive change.
2.4 Disabled Children’s Services consultation document for children and young people, with accompanying guidance, to be finalised and the planned 12 week consultation process to begin February/March 2014
