Fairfield Farm Kitchens plant on Battles Street in Brockton, Ma has produced its last batch of soup. Fairfield Farm Kitchens announced recently it would lay off 70 employees and close its frozen food products plant at the end of 2006.

Reckitt Benckiser to close New York plant
Reckitt Benckiser has announced that it will close its manufacturing facility in Wolcott, New York and move the bulk of production to its facility in Springfield, Missouri. The manufacturing facility currently employees 74 people, plus 40 contract people. The plant is primarily focused on producing fried onions and potato sticks. The plant also produces Cling Free dryer sheets. Reckitt Benckiser has said they will close the plant by the end of 2007.

Jersey City food plant closing
The Manischewitz plant in Jersey City, NJ, made its final matzo run in mid December and then the 80-year-old plant was prepared to be closed down as production shifts to the firm's Newark plant. Manischewitz is owned by the kosher food company R.A.B., whose brands include Rokeach, Mishpacha, Guiltless Gourmet, Season and Asian Harvest.

K-C Fish closing plant in Washington
K-C Fish, a fish filleting company, plans to shut down its Blaine, Washington facility by the end of February. Thirty employees will lose their jobs with this closure. The 15,000 square foot plant has operated in Blaine since 1957.

Culp closing two NC fabric plants
Culp will be closing two North Carolina plants in 2007: its weaving plant in Graham and the yarn plant in Lincolnton. It will transfer certain production from the Graham plant to its Anderson, S.C., and Shanghai, China, facilities, and a small portion to contract weavers. Culp will continue to operate one upholstery fabric plant in Anderson, which will produce velvets and decorative fabrics.

Renfro closing Fort Payne, Alabama hosiery plant
Renfro Corp has announced its Fort Payne Charleston plant on Airport Road will permanently close. The hosiery plant, which employs about 170 people, will end operations in February, 2007. Some equipment will be relocated overseas and the remainder of the equipment will stay with the Charleston plant.

Ameritex Yarn has announced that it is closing its Spartanburg manufacturing plant and selling all of its assets. The move by the Burlington, N.C. based company will leave 120 people looking for work. Ameritex makes cotton yarns for the home-furnishing, knit and woven apparel industries. Weyerhaeuser closing two wood products plants
Weyerhaeuser said that it is permanently closing two veneer plants in Oregon and cutting more than 100 workers at those sites. The company said shrinking demands for veneer products drove the gradual reduction and closure of the plywood mill in Springfield and a veneer plant in Eugene. The closures are effective immediately. The 128 employees are affected by the closures.

Louisana Pacific moving Colorado OSB plant to Chile
The Louisiana-Pacific oriented strand board plant near Olathe, Colorado, has packed up and moved a portion of their equipment to Chile. The plant closed in October 2001 according to site manager Jim Hollis. About 80 pieces of large equipment will also be shipped to the first phase of disassembling the plant. Other equipment will then be sold for scrap, which will probably take until mid spring of 2007. Then the building and adjoining 42 acres will be sold.

Edward Hines Lumber to close or sell Jackson, Wi roof truss plant
Edward Hines Lumber, which bought Cedarburg Lumber and its Jackson, Wisconsin, facilities last year, have stated it intends to close its roof-truss plant in early February because of the "economic downturn" in home building. Gerry Wille, vice president of operations, said the company is trying to sell the truss-making plant as an ongoing operation rather than close it.

Smurfit Stone closes Teterboro, NJ plant
A Chicago-based maker of corrugated containers has closed its Teterboro, NJ manufacturing plant at a cost of 133 jobs. Smurfit Stone Container said that although production stopped at the end of 2006, a few employees will work at the plant through the end of January, 2007. The 93,000-square-foot building at 200 Hollister Road in Teterboro is a leased facility.
