Core Functions
- To reduce the harm caused by Sexual Exploitation to Children and Young People in the Borough.
- Provide Strategic direction for the Multi Agency Planning (MAP) meetings and as a feeder group to the Barking and Dagenham Safeguarding Children Board (BDSCB).
Main Responsibilities
The Child Sexual Exploitation Committeewill:
- To work collaboratively with all agencies to ensure the Safeguarding and Welfare of children and young people who are being or are at risk of being, sexually exploited.
- To Apply pro-active problem solving to address the risks associated with victim, perpetrators and locations and ensure the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people who or who may be at risk from Sexual Exploitation.
- To raise awareness and provide preventative education for the welfare of children and young people who are or who may be Sexually Exploited.

Continuity of Representation
The individual members of MASE Committee have a duty as members to contribute to the effective work of the group.
In the event that the nominated member is unable to attend it is expected that a representative would attend in their place.
Should any members post cease to exist; the post holder’s organisation should nominate a successor prior to the resignation of the member from the Committee.
The nominated member should be of equal or similar standing to the preceding member.
The Chair of the Committee will report on agency representation/attendance to the Safeguarding Children Board Chair and Board, as required.
Frequency of meetings
The MASE Committeewill meet on a Monthly basis initially, until further notice, for two hours. This group will advise the Chair of the significant issues for the meeting.
Quoracy
All relevant organisations should ensure that there is a representative from their respective agency at all MASE Committeemeetings. At least 50% of members should be present to allow any meeting to go ahead.
Administrative Arrangements
The BDSCB Business Manager will facilitate the MASE Committeemeetings. The administrative arrangements will be reviewed after six months. All papers will be circulated to members 5 working days before the meeting.
The minutes from the meeting will be circulated to members within 3 weeks.
Members will submit papers for presentation, to the BDSCB Business Manager, at least 10 working days, before the meeting.
