Prior to moving west, he worked as an environmental biologist, and moved up as the turkey and furbearer biologist, the Wildlife Division Director, and the coordinator of the stream and wetland restoration program with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family (wife of 17 years, and two children), being active in his church and coaching baseball and soccer. He is an avid small game, deer, and turkey hunter and enjoys trapping and fishing.

He holds a life membership in the National Rifle Association and is a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation and Ducks Unlimited. He is passionate about wildlife conservation and application of the North American Model of Wildlife Management in providing hunting and trapping opportunity for sportsmen and women.
