CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

CHESS FOR GRADES 1-2 AND 3-5

Learn to play the games of chess! This is for beginners as well as players that want to learn new strategies and ways to win as well as other classes ”secrets”. You will learn all the basic moves of the chess pieces, their values, piece interaction, and how to win (checkmate). Chess is a fascinating game, which can be played and enjoyed by all levels. Educational research indicates evidence of a strong positive correlation between chess and student academic performance. The practical application of the skills learned while concentration, critical thinking, problem solving, strategic planning, creativity, pattern recognition, good sportsmanship, good decision making

COMPUTER CLUB

Join this educational and fun program! We will work with laptops using various programs that will help us to be successful at school! We will also be working with favorite programs like Kahoot! and Brainpop! to have fun while learning.

COOKING K-2 Fun on a stick

Who can resist yummy treats on a stick? It doesn’t matter if it is bursting with sweet fruit or flavorful savory goodness, either way you just want to dive in! This session we will be creating sweet and savory yummy treats all on a stick! Strawberry and Fruit Rose Bouquets, Banana Split Sticks, Sticky Stacky Sandwiches, Meatball Subs, Chef Salad Sticksand so much more!

COOKING 3-5 Restaurant Creation

If your Tiny Chef dreams of someday having their own restaurant, sign them up for this inventive session! Each week the students will produce a different course (appetizer, soup, main dish or dessert) or an item from a certain cuisine and build a restaurant around it. Over the course (ha ha) of the session they will also be working on a final idea for their own restaurant, expanding on the types of foods their particular restaurant would serve based on the experiences they have had in class. Students will be introduced to a variety of cuisines, cooking skills and presentations over the semester.

CREATIVE DANCE AND BALLET

Have fun learning the Basics of Ballet, be a princess and dance to some of your favorite classical tales!

CREATIVE FUN WITH COMPUTERS FOR K, 1 AND 2

If you have a creative mind, like to explore and enjoy working on computers, join Mrs. P in having some innovative fun this winter! Students will design their very own Wixie multimedia presentations combining images, drawings, text and voice recording techniques. No basic skills required! All are welcomed!

ENGINEERING AND DESIGN: TO THE RESCUE
In this class student will explore theengineering design process. They will engage in hands-on, real-worldengineeringexperiences as they work together to solveengineeringchallenges. The focus of this class is to design and engineer aid drop packages.

FLOOR HOCKEY

Each week we will work to improve your floor hockey skills through fun drills, exciting games and tournaments.

GAMES WITH MR. C: K-2

Each week we will play tag games and PE class favorites like Bean Bag Toe Touch, Clean Up Your Backyard, and Bowling Pin Knockdown

GLEE CLUB

This club will be a singing group. We will sing some song favorites while helping you with singing skills to become a more confident singer.

HIP HOP

Learn some of the newest moves to your favorite songs!

MUSICAL JAZZ AND THEATER

Join Jennings Broadway and dance and sing while you learn classic Jazz dance and songs tosome of your favorites!!

PAINTING WITH A TWIST, TAKE 2

Painting with a twist, take 2! In this class we will be creating all new painting projects. We will be creating paintings on many different surfaces such as from stretched canvas, wood, cardboard, and natural surfaces. We will explore a variety of subject matter such as signs for your home, original creations, and recreating masters paintings step by step!

SCRAPBOOKING WITH MRS. I

Memories hold a special place in our heart. Scrapbooking is the perfect way to capture those moments. Create a memory book using your favorite pictures on decorative paper using die cut punch outs, stickers, 3D images, words, theme related items and a creative mind. Students will be creating a 12x12 book (provided) and will need to bring 30-40 pictures of their choice.

SEW HAPPY FOX PROJECT

Join Sew Happy and learn the life skill of sewing while working on this adorable fox themed projects. This club starts by teaching the basic techniques of sewing (like threading a needle and tying a knot) and progresses from there. We believe at Sew Happy that kids benefit from sewing in many ways. Not only is it great for hand/eye coordination, fine motor skills, focus and concentration, it also gives kids a lifetime vehicle for personal and creative expression! All Sew Happy projects are designed in-house, made in the USA and use felt made from recycled water bottles.

TOURNAMENTS WITH MR. C

Each week we will play a different tournament. Options include floor hockey, handball, speedball, or soccer.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:

ARCTIC NIGHT LIGHTS WITH POP POMP SEALS with The Painted Bird

We will be making pompom seals and Arctic night lights. The kids will love making seals using pompoms, felt and black beads for eyes. Afterwards, they will enjoy making them a habitat by filling square glass vases with small white rocks, clear sea glass and plastic ice cubes to create layers of their arctic glacier. Once they add a LED tea light on top, they become a cool arctic night light.

WIRE AND BEADED VALENTINE HEARTS WREATHS with The Painted Bird

The kids will use multi-colored beads, gems, mini flowers and other
embellishments to string onto thin wires that they will wrap around a heart shaped wire wreath. They can be used as a Valentine’s Day gift or a decoration that lasts well after Valentine’s day. It can be hung outdoors on a door or even in a garden. Once they are done making their wreaths, they can make cupid’s arrow Valentine’s day cards.

COOKIE DUNK MUG with Hands On Pottery

Hands on Pottery will teach your children about painting with glazes on our bisque products. We will explore several painting techniques on pieces that will all be of use! After the children paint their pottery at school, the pieces will be returned to Hands on Pottery for firing. The pieces will then be returned to Jennings to take home.

SNOWMAN CANVAS PAINTING with The Giggling Pig

Come create and giggle with The Giggling Pig. Join us as we walk you step by step through this adorable snowman painting. Students will be amazed at their talent and will leave with a beautiful canvas painting perfect for the holidays. Don't forget to "dress for a mess!"

HOLIDAY COOKIE DECORATINGwith Cookease

Come join the fun! We will be decorating Holiday Cookies. Each student will receive at least 10 delicious home baked sugar cookies. We’ll use royal icing and the piper tubes to create beautiful creations. We are nut free and our icing does not contain eggs. Hope to see you there!!
