Fast Forward Resume And Cover Letter

(50 Points)

Objective:

To become prepared for a future careerTo demonstrate ability to create a resume using appropriate format

Directions:

  1. Create a resume to get a job that will move you towards the career you researched.
  • Let’s pretend you are ready to begin your career.
  • Include in your resume education and experience that will qualify you for a job that will start your career—we are pretending you have done these things! YES IT IS FAKE. But we hope it will be true someday.
  • Use acceptable resume format – look online, in books, or pamphlets.
  • Please make sure everything is spelled correctly.
  • Save in your career folder as fast forward resume. Remember to add period, last name and ID
  • Print and turn in with your cover letter. Also attach “career search”
  1. Create a cover letter applying for a job to move you towards the career you researched.
  • Make same assumptions as above
  • Use personal business letter format with either open punctuation or mixed punctuation. Block style – all parts begin at the left margin. See Page 78 of the keyboarding book. You will be sending your resume, so include Attachment notation(instead of Enclosure)
  • Use the same return address as your resume
  • Make up the name and address of the business and the name and title of person to whom you are sending your letter
  • Body:
  • First paragraph – indicate what job you are applying for, how you found out about the opening, and a very brief statement of how you qualify.
  • Second (and third?) paragraph – discuss your qualifications; refer to things in your resume, focus on points you think you have done that make you able to successfully do the job. Focus on how you can help the company, not how they can help you. (this could be two paragraphs if you have a lot to say)
  • Third (or fourth) paragraph – What action do you want them to take? Ask for an interview and tell them how and when to contact you – even though it is in your resume.
  • Final paragraph – one or two sentences to sum it up and thank for their consideration
  • Save as fast forward coverRemember to add period, last name and ID
  • Print. Attach to the front of your resume, turn in as directed.
