Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Medical Director the Speechpathologists, will assess, diagnose, treat, and help to prevent disorders related to speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing, and fluency.

Essential Job Functions

  • Screens, examines and evaluates patients, including history, systems review, and application of appropriate tests and measures, synthesis information and interprets examination findings in order to establish a diagnosis, identify impairments, determine the predicted level of improvement and the time required to achieve it, identify precautions/contraindications and design and plan of care.
  • Develops appropriate treatment goals and methods in collaboration with the patient and caregivers, implements the speech language pathology treatment plan, and completes all related documentation and record keeping regarding these services.
  • Services application of therapeutic techniques in areas such as: cognitive-communication; speech intelligibility; oral motor skills; swallowing disorders/dysphagia; perceptual abilities; orientation; memory; pragmatics; psychosocial expression; and/or functional communication.
  • Facilitates identification of hearing deficits and appropriately refers for assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation and/or personal amplification.
  • All of the duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Job Functions

  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-services, projects and committees as assigned.
  • Adheres to and supports the facilities' policies, practices and procedures.
  • Accepts assigned duties in a cooperative manner and performs all other related duties as assigned.
  • May require use of personal vehicle.

Variable working conditions (ADHC, hospital, nursing home, at home or elsewhere when on call). Comfortable work atmosphere. Some undesirable conditions at ADHC - exposure to odors, fumes, infections, dust, dirt, which may be objectionable. Local car travel frequently necessary. Out of town travel is minimal.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk, hear, and to stand and walk.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum one (1) year recent successful experience working with a frail or elderly population in a community-based or long-term care setting.
  • Working knowledge of physical, mental and social needs of the frail elderly population.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Possess Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Be licensed, certified or credentialed, as required in the state of practice.
  • Ability to work independently and as member of a team.
  • Computer skills required.

Education/Certification

Education: A master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, Communicative Disorders or similarly titled area that is consistent and acceptable to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
