Chemistry 117 Laboratory Schedule - Summer 2008

Laboratory Coordinator: Prof. Kenneth Cerny [ S-1-083 email: ]

Laboratory Instructors:

M and W Lab 12:30-4:30 pm

Tu and Th Lab 12:30-4:30 pm Name: ______

Tu and Th Lab 5:30-9:30 pm

There are three laboratory sections for Chem 117. They will all follow this same schedule for experiments. If for some reason you cannot attend your normal section, it may be possible to make up the experiment in a different lab section (BUT only if arrangements are made with your instructor and the other instructor AND the other section is doing the same experiment!). The ‘set-up’ for each experiment will no longer be available after the last lab section has met; and at that point a missed lab simply becomes a zero. Note that there are ten experiments in this course.

Schedule of Experiments (the write-up for each laboratory is available on the course website)

RULES TO BE FOLLOWED IN THE LAB

·  Reports are to be completed and handed in at the end of each laboratory period.

·  Labs start promptly at their scheduled times. Students arriving late will NOT be allowed to work.

·  Safety Goggles (which are supplied) must be worn whenever anyone in the lab is doing an experiment.

·  There is no eating and no drinking in the lab. Do not wear open-toed shoes (e.g. sandels, flip-flops), and long hair must be tied back.

·  Certain chemicals must be used and remain in the fume hoods. Some chemicals can damage skin and/or clothing. You will be advised about safe handling of these chemicals when they are used. If you wish, you may use nitrile gloves (available in the lab) when working with hazardous materials.

·  Always follow instructions regarding disposal of chemical waste. Do NOT dispose of any chemicals into the sinks unless instructed to do so.

·  Report any injury immediately to your lab instructor.
