Friday Sessions

Each student must sign up for one Friday session.

Problem solving and discussions of lecture material will be generally held on Fridays. Sometimes a regular lecture covering new material will take place on Friday.

Attendance ofyour assigned Friday session is required as part of the course.

HOMEWORK POLICY

Homework must be submitted at the recitation session you are enrolled in or in class on the date due. Always indicate your recitation session ( A or B) in addition to your name on the front page. No late homework will be accepted unless a written explanation is submitted describing the cause of tardiness (illness, family problems, trip due to sports event, etc.). The instructor reserves the right to ask for additional proof in support of such a statement.

Important: AT LEAST 75% OF THE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE ATTEMPTED AND SUBMITTED TO RECEIVE A PASSING GRADE. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS RULE WILL RESULT IN AN AUTOMATIC GRADE OF F.

GRADING POLICY

EXAMS

Three exams ill be given approximately around the dates indicated in the outline above. Exams will be scheduled in the evening and will take 2-3 hours. First two hours will be spent on working out the problem. The last hour (if desired) will be spent on assessing your work based on solutions that will be presented by the instructor.

Final quiz will be given during the final exam period.

The exams will be closed book, closed notes but you will be allowed a standard two-sided sheet of paper per exam on which you entered the equations you feel you might need. This means for exam 1 one sheet allowed, for exam 3– 3 sheets. No crib sheets for the final quiz.Use of calculators and integral tables is allowed and encouraged.

Quizzes

Unannounced quizzes will be given frequently in class. They will be closed and open book. Final quiz is closed book, no crib sheets, no notes. The final grade will be based on the following:

Exam 125%

Exam 225%

Exam 325%

Quizzes, Homework, project25%

Final QuizUsed as tie breaker for grade improvement.

Your name must be printed or clearly written on all exams, homeworks and quizzes submitted.

Very important. Your exam and quiz paper must be folded and left exactly at the place where you were seated to be collected by the instructor after all students have left. Disregard of this rule will result in a grade of zero on your quiz or exam.

NOTE:

Any excuse for not attending class, missing quizzes, late homework must be submitted in writing. No oral explanations will be accepted. The written document should have your name clearly printed on it, the date for which you are submitting an excuse and the reason for your absence from class should be clearly identified. This should be done via e-mail but hard copies are accepted also.
