Character Diary:

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

As you read, you are going to write a journal. The twist? You will be writing the journal from the point of view of a character from Tom Sawyer. What and how would he/she say and word personal thoughts, ideas, etc.? Record your reactions to situations as you read (thoughts/feelings). Each entry should be at least one page handwritten (which will turn out to be ½ page double-spaced). The ENTIRE diary will be due shortly after the final test is given.

Requirements:

  • The FINAL product should be typed, double-spaced
  • Each entry needs to be numbered and include a date
  • Each entry also needs to be begin with “Dear Diary” or something of that nature
  • Must have an attempt at dialect (remember, they are ALL from Missouri so their speech includes dialect)
  • Include the character’s THOUGHTS and FEELINGS in EACH entry

Rubric:

  • 15 entries as a character (15 points)
  • Good character interpretation(10 points)
  • At least 5 major situations covered (10 points)
  • Detailed character descriptions (thoughts/feelings) (10 points)
  • Includes requirements: Numbered/dated entries, begin with “Dear Diary”, typed, double-spaced, and edited (5 points)
