CHANGES TO ISLAND CONNECT PARK & RIDE SERVICES (MALL OF THE MAINLAND & LEAGUE CITY)

The Park & Ride service currently operating from the Mall of the Mainland (MOM) in Texas City will cease operations on March 31, 2016. Various factors have combined to make the MOM service financially unsustainable. Many of the current MOM riders have used the service since its inception in 2009 and rely on it as their only means of accessing their jobs on Galveston Island. Connect Transit (operator of the MOM service and the League City P&R) is committed to assisting as many MOM riders as possible with retaining access to a commuting option. Connect has already facilitated access to the regional van pooling program for MOM riders who wish to convert to van pooling. As discussed below, minor changes to the League City P&R service will also be implemented in an effort to serve MOM riders, while minimizing the effect on existing League City P&R riders.

Several AM and PM trips on the League City P&R service will add a stop at the Park & Pool lot at Delany Rd/Century Blvd & Monticello Dr (near I-45) in Texas City to accommodate displaced MOM riders. In some cases this will necessitate riders catching the bus a few minutes earlier than they previously have. Every effort has been made to ensure minimal disruption to arrival times in Galveston so that everyone will still be on time for work. We realize earlier departure times and an extra stop represent an inconvenience to riders. However, we sincerely hope that everyone can appreciate the goal of providing transportation options for all, and be understanding of the need for these changes. Particularly for the UTMB community, please remember that most of the affected MOM passengers are your fellow co-workers.

On the reverse side of this flyer you will find the new park & ride schedule. This schedule will be operated for a 90-day trial period, after which schedule adjustments will be made as necessary.

The schedule and route adjustments being made as a result of the MOM closure will likely be temporary, until the permanent park & ride facility being developed by Connect Transit in Texas City is ready to begin operations in 2017.

Again, Connect Transit appreciates the patience and understanding of all P&R riders as these changes are made. Concerns can be addressed to James Hollis, Connect Transit Transportation Director.
