CHANGES IN STORE TO THE

TUCK SHOP

At a Class Reps. Meeting on Wednesday 30th Aug schools ‘Healthy Eating Boss’ Ms. Gloria MacDougall discussed possible improvements to the tuck shop.

Ms. MacDougall told the group that changes to rules and a need to improve diet and exercise levels would mean that we must start looking for healthier options.

She told the class reps about the huge quantities of fat and sugar that were contained in fizzy drinks such as cola and fanta and showed the actual quantities of sugar (5kg) and fat (4 kg) that consuming 2 cans of juice daily would add to your body.

These are on display in the cabinet

beside the tuck shop

She even said that coke is used in

some places as a lavy cleaner!!

In a discussion that followed quite a few pupils were unhappy that they had such a poor choice of ‘unhealthy’ drinks and snacks at break time and the younger pupils were surprised at the change in tuck compared to their ‘healthier options’ in primary.

The reps divided into 4 groups and each produced a list of possible healthier options
