MYPSYCHLAB MyPsychLab Course Compass Student Access Code card will come FREE with your text above—it will be shrink-wrapped to the back of the text in the CGCC Bookstore.
Our online course is delivered through a version of Blackboard (Bb) managed through Pearson Ed., not through CGCC. You will access our course through the following web address www.coursecompass.com. Please refer to your MyPsychLab handout for information on registering with MyPsychLab. After your initial registration, you’ll only need to use your login name and password each time you go to the website.
ORIENTATION This is an online course. However, we will have ONE face-to-face meeting as noted in CGCC’s online course schedule and your four tests will be taken on the Pecos campus. This first class meeting is mandatory for all students who have never taken an online course before, do not know how to post on a discussion board, and/or use email confidently. You do not have to attend the orientation if none of the previous sentence applies to you AND you can: 1) register and log on to the MyPsychLab course website, 2) submit your Syllabus Quiz, 3) post your introduction on our Welcome Discussion Board, and 4) email me back your Syllabus Contract prior to the Friday, 5 pm Jan. 22nd deadline. The orientation will be held on Monday, Jan, 25th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in room C-105 (bottom level of the C building; the room faces the courtyard). We will be introducing ourselves, setting up our email communication, registering in MyPsychLab, and discussing our syllabus. If you do not successfully accomplish items 1-4 above or attend the orientation, you will be dropped from the course.
Course This course will be conducted online, however all four tests will be taken at the Pecos
Mode Campus. All our weekly lectures, discussion board activities, video clips/interactive media, and quizzes will be delivered via the internet. All tests will be taken at the CGCC Pecos Campus Testing Center. Each test will be made available for you to take anytime during its week-long release (see course calendar) within the hours of operation of the Pecos Campus Testing Center (see Testing Center below).
OnLine You will need:
Course 1) Access to a computer with Windows 95 or higher
Requirements 2) A reliable, speedy connection to the internet
3) A web browser (such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Netscape Version 3 or higher)
4) An e-mail account with an updated e-mail software package
TROUBLE- All of the videos and links on the course website are working. If you can’t access the video or
SHOOTING link, could it be:
1) That your internet provider (i.e. Cox, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc…) is down?
2) That your firewall, pop-up protector, anti-virus guard, or internet security system is preventing
you from opening the media within the course? To test this, temporarily lower or turn-off the
protective programs that might be preventing your access.
3) That you forgot to download the free programs MyPsychLab offered when you first logged in
to the course? These programs allow you to “run” or play the media within our website.
Note: If the MypsychLab Blackboard site is ever down for any reason, you will see an announcement on the login page. If you are having problems with the site and there is no login page announcement, the problem is on your end and is your responsibility to fix. You should call your internet provider (i.e. Cox, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc…). If this doesn’t work, to brainstorm ideas on how to fix your problem, you can also call CGCC Technical Support Services for help; however, they are not responsible for your personal computer: (480) 732-7025.
STUDENT Students are responsible for the information (i.e. general information, college policies, college
RESPONSIBILITY services, student policies, conduct, and procedures, degree requirements, educational programs, and course descriptions) contained in the CGCC Catalog and Student Handbook. You can find this online on CGC’s home page (see the left side tool bar link- catalog) or a hardcopy in the Admissions, Records and Registration Building (Building A). Students are also responsible for the information in this course syllabus.

Instructor Please email me at whenever you have a question. Please Response Time read through your syllabus first before emailing me with a question – the answer you are
looking for may very well be answered there! I will get back to you as soon as I can, but within 24 hours Monday – Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (emails sent after 5:00 p.m. on Friday will be responded to on Monday morning. Please do not wait until a deadline is close to email me for help. I may or may not be available. I cannot be accessible 24 hours a day.
Subject Line : Please always list your “LAST NAME-b” in the “Subject” line of your email, so I know who you are (as email addresses often don’t reflect identifiable names) and so I know which section of PSY101 you are in (I have two PSY101 Online sections each semester).
Email Address You need to USE THE SAME EMAIL ADDRESS YOU REGISTER IN MYPSYCHLAB FOR THIS ENTIRE COURSE to send all class emails. Use this same email address when you register in MyPsychLab and every time thereafter as well as when you email me at (or you may end up “spammed” or in my “junk mail” box). Once you’ve registered your email address in MyPsychLab, this email address will be the ONLY email address that MyPsychLab will recognize. You do not need to use a CGC email address; I suggest you use your personal (e.g. Cox, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc…) email account that you check and use every day. I am only a email away.
Attendance Your weekly attendance is taken by the successful completion and submittal of your weekly quiz and discussion board postings by 8:00 pm each Tuesday night. After 8:00 pm, the quiz link will disappear and the quiz will not be available. Since our class has a once-per-week deadline, it is similar to a night class that meets once per week. If you miss MORE THAN two quizzes and/or discussion board postings, you may be withdrawn from the class by the instructor, per college attendance and withdrawal policy (i.e. after your third missed quiz and/or posting, you may be dropped from the class).
TIME Please make this class a priority. We all make daily decisions about how we spend our time.
MANAGEMENT Please don’t procrastinate. Plan ahead so you can take your quizzes, make your postings, and take your tests in the timeframes indicated on your syllabus. Time management is an important life skill to learn. If you miss three quizzes, one test, etc., I may drop you from the class regardless of your reason.
ILLNESS/ If you suffer from a catastrophic illness, are in a car accident, or have a family emergency, it is
EMERGENCY your responsibility to have a family member or friend email me at () to let me know within one week of the event. If it is reasonable, I will try to work with you to catch up. I may require documentation of your illness, accident, etc. If you don’t communicate with me and you miss more than the allowed number of quizzes or postings, I may drop you for lack of attendance.
CGCC The CGCC Alert system utilizes text messaging and email to notify students of emergency situations
EMERGENCY on or around campus. Students should update their contact information in the Maricopa Online
ALERT Student Center at my.maricopa.edu: https://student.sis.maricopa.edu/psp/STUDENT/STUDENT/PSFT_LS/c/SA_LEARNER_SERVICES.SSS_STUDENT_CENTER.GBL?& in order to receive a CGCC Alert notification in the event of an emergency.
Course It is your responsibility to withdraw yourself from the class with the official CGCC withdrawal form
Withdrawal or via phone, before the Student Withdrawal Deadline on Friday, March 5th, 2010. If you do not withdraw yourself by the March 5th Student Withdrawal Deadline, you may be issued an “F” in the course.
PURGED FOR If you are purged from the course for nonpayment of tuition, it is your responsibility to add the class NONPAYMENT back again once you are dropped. There is no guarantee that a seat will still be available for you if you are purged.
Tests (480 POINTS TOTAL): There will be four tests taken at the Pecos Campus (each test has 55 multiple choice questions worth 2 points each, and one essay question worth 10 points). Each of the four chapter tests will be released for approximately one week, from Tuesday at 8:00 am to the following Wednesday at 7:00 pm (see below for Testing Center hours of operation). You may take each test anytime you choose within the week it is released (during the Testing Center’s hours of operation). If you would like to view your tests results in person, please see me during my on-campus office hours or we can make an appointment that is convenient for both of us.
LATE TESTS You may take ONE test late (except our last test) without penalty during the semester. You must email me at BY 7 PM ON THE TEST’S ORINIGAL DUE DATE to notify me that you’ll need to take the test late. You will have one week from the test’s original due date to take it. You may take a second test late, however there will be a 10 point deduction from the score you earn. No late tests will be accepted for credit after the second late test, and you may be dropped from the class if you completely miss a test. The fourth test may not be taken late because of final grading.
TAKING A TEST You will need a picture ID, a No. 2 pencil and a scantron form for each test (.22 for one or $1.19 for pack of six). You can purchase all of them at once in the CGCC Bookstore and save time and effort! Please keep the forms straight and in good condition. Do not fold, staple, or bend the forms as they may not feed through the scantron machine. Please include: Last Name/First, PSY 101b, Dr.CGCC, date, and Test#___ on the front of your Scantron. If your scantron gets misplaced, it needs to be easily identifiable (all scantrons look alike!) Your essay questions should be answered on the back of your scantron form in the green box.
