Title / Chief Executive
Location / Flexible. Either home-based but within easy commuting distance to Central Belt for regular meetings / events or in shared office space in Edinburgh.
If home-based you will need to have a fast and reliable internet connection,good telephone reception (mobile or landline) and access to transport links to aid travel across Scotland.
Hours / We are Happy to Talk Flexible Working including reduced hours. Team meetings are in Edinburgh. They can be attended virtually occasionally. Board meetings are monthly to every 6 weeks in Edinburgh and often in the evenings.
Report to / Co-Chairs of Fathers Network Scotland Board
About the organisation / The mission of the organisation is:
To drive positive cultural change by inspiring organisations to positively engage, support, and empower men to become the fathers they want to be.
In our drive to create positive cultural change we have four intentions that guide our activities:

Fathers Network Scotland is a small charity comprised of a CEO (FT), Head of Communications (0.6FTE), and Project Manager (0.5) who between them work flexibly. There are also a number of contractors who may be delivering work on the charities behalf eg. Research, and Marketing. The Year of the Dad (YotD) is a strategic campaign for 2016-2018.
FNS are funded by Scottish Government to March 2018.

Role Overview
The role of the Chief Executive is to lead the organisation by:
  1. Detailing strategic direction and building a staff team.
  2. Providing the Co-chairs and Board with timely management information that ensuresgovernance needsare met.
  3. Maintaining Stakeholder relationships, particularly the main funder Scottish Government Early Years Team.
  4. Developing and implementing a fund raising and business strategy.
  5. Making decisions that ensure the business strategy is delivered.
  6. Measuring key indicators and reporting on them to the Board.

Overall Objectives
You will be responsible forand measured on:
Ensuring organisations strategic objectives are followed.
Developing policies and processes andto ensure that they are implemented.
Agreeing budget and ensuring the board are kept up to date with finance.
Defining and secure resources including funding and people. Ensure the implementation of a fund raising strategy.
Leading and managinga team of employees and contractors.
Seeking opportunities to expand and promote the charity. Represent the charity at conferences and in the public.
The management of key stakeholdersand partners including funders, government departments, regulators and significant decision makers.
Supporting the Co-Chairs to ensure the engagement of the whole board to implement and maintain an appropriate governance framework.
Person Specification / Essential / Desirable
Experience / Seniormanagement in 3rd or public sector.
Proven track record of high level decision making.
People management experience. / A private sector senior leadership.
Experience of being a trustee.
Working in/for a small charity.
Qualifications / Educated to at least Level 6 on the Scottish credit and qualifications framework (or equivalent). / Relevant management qualification.
Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes and Abilities / Influencing skills and the ability to take others with them.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships both internally and externally.
Excellent communication skills both written and oral, with the ability to present clear ideas.
To be an ambassador for father-friendly working, as well as a role model and spokesperson for gender equality.
Excellent organisational and project management skills.
Financial literacy to read and interpret accounts and budgets. / Evidence of CPD.
Evidence of published written work and reports.
Delegation skills.
Knowing when to drill down into detail and when to see the bigger strategic picture.
