Target Audience

This program has been designed for all members of staff involved in patient care, including physicians, fellows, nurses, nurse practitioners, social workers, pastoral care, and all others who contribute to the care giving process.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Apply communication and interpersonal sensitivity to strengthen the performance in patient-caregiver relationship
  • Discuss how patients define empathic care and competently put into practice behaviors that reflect this understanding
  • Participate in a forum where caregivers can give and receive support from one another
  • Participate in an environment where caregivers can share their feelings and experiences to benefit others emotionally and professionally and ultimately improve emotional patient outcomes
  • Support and advance healthcare in which caregivers, patients, and their families relate to one another in a way that provides hope to the patient, support to the caregivers, and sustenance to the healing process
