Chief Minister addresses farmers conference in Morbi to mark 70th Independence Day

“All marketing yards to be expanded and modernized in Gujarat”

“55 dams in Saurashtra region to be filled up with Narmada waters”

Ahmedabad, Sunday: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijaybhai Rupani today announced that all the marketing yards of the state will be expanded and modernized, and as a part of which 30,000 sq m land worth Rs.12.50-crore documents was handed over to Halvad marketing yard chairman Ranchhodbhai Patel for Rs.50-lakh. He also performed the groundbreaking ceremony of Rs.37.78-crore Halvad-Morbbi Road widening project.

Addressing a farmers’ conference at Halvad as part of the 70th Independence Day state-level celebrations being held in Morbi district this year, he said the state government would fill up 55 dams in the Saurashtra region as part of the ‘Sauni Yojna’ which should take care of the likely drinking water shortage to a large extent.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to make governance transparent, decisive, sensitive and progressive. Even as three-fourth of the present Council of Ministers in Gujarat are farmers, Mr. Rupani said that state government has allocated Rs.1,700-crore for agricultural loans to be given to farmers at an interest of one per cent. He said the government’s other decision to withdraw toll tax for private vehicles at select toll booths would help people.

Mr. Rupani felicitated ten progressive farmers, distributed Rs.2.77-crore assistance to 955 beneficiaries on the occasion. He remembered the contribution of Brahmins of Halvad in the freedom struggle, and also their taste for sweetmeat ‘laddoos’.

Others who spoke included Agriculture and Energy Minister Chimanbhai Sapriya, Minister of State for Panchayat and Rural Housing Jayantibhai Kavadiya, Junagadh Agriculture University Vice-Chancellor Dr. A.R. Pathak and Principal Secretary for Agriculture, Cooperation and Animal Husbandry Sanjay Prasad. Director of Agriculture Dr. B.R. Shah proposed a vote of thanks.

The Chief Minister felicitated progressive farmers and cattle owners Rafiqbhai Allarakhabhai, Dineshbhai Keshavji Makwana, Nilesh Mavji Chaudhry, Ramji Parshotam Detroji, Hamirbhai and Bansiben Bharvad and Yunusbhai Mamadbhai.

Those present on the occasion included MP Mohanlal Kundariya, MLA Kantilal Amritiya, Hakvad Nagaropalika President Ranchdodbhai Dalvadi, ST Corporation Director Bipinbhai Dave, Collector I.K. Patel, DDO Sunil Kumar, Prant Officer Rekhaba Sarvaiya, and others.
