Cetol HLS Plus (BP)
Cetol HLS Plus (BP)
Translucent solvent borne alkyd-emulsion based, low-build satin basecoat and wood stain for exterior use.
General
Main properties Resists UV-light, surface mould and algae, peeling and cracking.
The wood grain remains visible and beautifies the wood species.
Microporous, giving a moisture-control system.
Ensures protection of timber.
Optimum coloring effect.
Fungicidal protection of wood surfaces.
Effective against blue fungi.
Simple maintenance by periodic applications without obligation stripping.
VOC 2010-compliant.
Use As a one-pot system in translucent systems for
dimension stable constructions made from new softwood,
plywood, block board and particle board, such as
claddings, fascias, architraves, timber frames, fences and sheds.
As a primer on hardwood, use Cetol Filter 7 Plus as finishing coat.
Its properties make Cetol HLS Plus (BP) excellently suitable for
application on softwood.
Application data
Application conditions Temperature between 5 – 30°C.
Maximum relative humidity: 85 %.
Application method Ready for use, after thorough stirring.
Brush:
Thinner: do not thin
Percentage thinner: ---
Viscosity: Ready for use
Cleaning of equipment Clean brushes and equipment immediately after use with white
spirit.
Theoretical coverage Dry layer thickness 15 microns, approx. 16 m²/liter.
Practical coverage Dry layer thickness 15 microns, approx. 16 m²/liter.
The coverage mainly depends on the wood species under
treatment, the surface condition, the method of application and
conditions during application.
On rough sawn timber the coverage is significantly lower
(e.g. 7 – 10 m²/liter).
Advised layer thickness Dry: approx. 10 µm per coat.
at 20°C and 65 % R.H. Wet: approx. 36 µm.
A Cetol HLS Plus (BP)-system should have a minimum dry film
thickness of 20 µm. The first layer strongly penetrates into the
wood, securing adhesion, but hardly adding to the total dry film
thickness.
Drying at 20°C and 65 % R.H. Dust-dry: after approx. 4 hours.
Recoatable: after approx. 18 to 24 hours.
Properties
Packaging viscosity Approx. 24 – 30 seconds, DIN-cup 4 at 23°C.
0.4 – 0.7 Pa.s / Cone and Plate / 25°C.
Density Approx. 0, 91 kg/dm³.
Solids content By weight: approx. 29 %.
By volume: approx. 25 %.
Gloss level Semi-gloss, approx. 30 – 40 GU/60° (ASTM D523).
Outdoor durability Approximately 2 years for a 3-coat Cetol HLS Plus (BP)-system.
The lighter colours of translucent products are slightly less outdoor-durable. This is why the low pigmented colours of Cetol HLS Plus (BP) are based on base TU, reinforced with UV-absorber and HALS. This will result in approximate comparable durability with the other translucent colours of the product.
Durability mainly depends on location, elevation and the wood
quality, design, construction, glazing, condition of the interior
paintwork, method of application adopted, etc
Shelf life Minimum 24 months in the original and unopened packaging.
Storage conditions Store in a dry warehouse at temperatures between 5 and 30°C.
VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) EU limit value for this product (cat. A/e): max. 500 g/l (2007),
max. 400 g/l (2010). This product contains maximum 400 g/l VOC.
Additional information
Packaging 1 – 5 – 10 L (Ready Mix)
1 – 2,5 – 10 L (base TU – TC)
Color range Available in the Cetol Design Concept & Natural Balance translucent color collection.
The final color of the Cetol HLS Plus (BP)-system mainly depends on the wood species on which the product is applied.
MM-standard All exterior colors are available using the bases TC and TU and
Acotint colorants.
Systems Timber moisture content
The moisture content of the timber to be coated should not exceed 16 %.
New woodwork:
Apply a priming coat of Cetol HLS Plus (BP) for softwood in the
selected colour.
Where necessary, repair with Componex WR Flex.
Apply 2 finishing coats of Cetol HLS Plus (BP).
For best results, it is necessary to keep the interval
between applications of these coats limited,
not exceeding 1 month.
Maintenance:
Depending on the condition of the finish, clean, degrease and
sand thoroughly. Repair defects with Cetol HLS Plus (BP) in the
appropriate colour and apply one or two full coats of Cetol HLS
Plus (BP) overall.
Transparency:
In order to maintain the translucent appearance of Cetol HLS
Plus (BP) over a longer period, it is recommended to use Cetol
Clearcoat LB Plus or alternatively use lighter colours, 077 or 006 for maintenance applications.
Remark Covering of horizontal surfaces:
During construction, it is recommended to cover horizontal
surfaces with plastic or aluminium foil to prevent dirt pick up by
mortar and cement.
