I. The Meeting was called to order at 4:00 pm by Leigh Anne Conduff.

II. Secretary read minutes for prior SGC meeting.

III. Mr. MacKenzie and Mrs. Bryant discussed the CES’ fund raisers. Items such as recess equipment were previously purchased with money from the fund raisers. They also discussed that they would like to purchase Broadcast Studio for the school so that students could be a part of broadcasting the morning announcements. In addition, they informed SGC that Z Space Technology units have been purchased for CES. Twelve units in all have been purchased for the city school system. Additionally, they are planning to visit schools with Z Space and STEM labs. Every fifth grade student will receive training on Z Space.

IV. Mrs. Bryant discussed Title money being used to provide professional development, STEM training, and a science training lab. Also, that it will be used to support teacher training and aligning curriculum maps. In addition, the STEM committee met for the first time. It consists of 12 members. There will be several sub committees that are formed such as STEM research committee and a STEM science lab committee. They will look into what certification and training is needed to support these committees. Additionally, they are looking into adding another component such as art into STEM.

V. Mr. MacKenzie received the GMAS results from the state. The scores across the state and our school were lower than expected. He informed the SGC that there is a different target to aim for such as responding to short answer questions as well as extended response questions compared to the previous “multiple choice” form of testing which has been the norm for several decades. All of the school’s data teams are working very hard to brainstorm effective strategies to bring our scores to the “Proficient” and “Distinguished” levels.

VI. David Caswell discussed creating open-ended questions for Survey Monkey for school uniforms.

VII. The December meeting cancelled.

VIII. There were no items for the open portion of the meeting, so the meeting adjourned at 4:45p.m.

The next CES School Governance Council meeting will be held on Monday, January 25, at 4:00 p.m. in the CES Media Center.
