Cervid TB Stat Pak Instructions (Oklahoma)

General

  • Approved for Elk, Whitetail Deer, Reindeer,Fallow Deer and Red Deer.
  • Use the Stat-Pak in place of the single cervical test (SCT).
  • Stat-Pak cannot be used on SCT responders. SCT responders must be tested with the comparative cervical test (CCT).
  • For interstate movement, verify with the receiving state that they will accept the Stat-Pak.
  • Canada currently does not recognize the Stat-Pak test for import into that country.

Collection of Samples

  • Requires 2 ml of serum, poured from clot and placed in a new clean tube. Avoid hemolysis.
  • Refrigerate serum samples until shipped, Do Not Freeze.
  • Record tube number and official animal ID on the tube.
  • Organize the serum tubes into a tube box in the same order as animals are listed on the submission form or its attached list.
  • If brucellosis testing is required, do not submit with Stat-Pak samples. Submit separately to an approved brucellosis laboratory.

Submission of samples to NVSL (National Veterinary Services Laboratories, Ames, IA)

  • Requires a VS Form 10-4 Submission Form
  • Submit refrigerated serum within 24 to 48 hours of collection.
  • Ship with frozen gel packs, but avoid direct contact with the serum tubes.
  • Requires notification of AVIC. Faxing a copy of the completed VS Form 10-4 to the Area Office at 405-751-2344will meet this requirement.
  • Place lab submission form and associated paperwork within plastic zip-lock bag. Place this bag outside of Styrofoam container, but underneath box flaps.
  • Cost is $12.00/sample
  • Set up an account by calling 515-337-6200 (preferred method)
  • Check (made out to NVSL).
  • Credit Card (write on submission form)
  • Ship by UPS or Fed Ex. US Postal Service does not deliver directly to NVSL. Do not ship to arrive at NVSL over the weekend.
  • Use your own shipping materials - or - order shipping kit from NVSL for $42.50 (call 515-337-6200). Includes cost of return shipping to NVSL. Does not include blood tubes or cost of the test.

Paperwork

  • In addition to the VS Form 10-4 Submission Form, a VS Form 6-22 TB test record must also be completed and mailed to the VS Area Office within 5 business days of receiving NVSL results.
  • If a large number of animals are tested, you may use a VS Form 10-4A continuation sheet, or a list of the animals can be attached with the necessary information included (ID, Sex, Age, Breed, Species):
  • Printout from a spreadsheet
  • Photocopy of the VS Form 6-22
  • Test results will be returned to the submitting veterinarian.

Cervid Stat-Pak Non-negative Tests

  • A secondary test, the Cervid Dual Path Platform (DPP) test will be run on the same serum sample at no extra charge.
  • Animals positive on the DPP will be classified as suspects or reactors, depending on the results of the epidemiological investigation. Suspects will be retested by a state or federal veterinarian after 30 days. Suspects positive on a second DPP test will be classified as reactors. Reactors will be indemnified and necropsied.
