Circomedia Job Description

Job Title: Development Director, £32k @.8, fixed term 2 year contract

Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer

Responsible for: Agency Manager, Outreach Manager, Marketing Manager

Grade: Director

Main Functions:

·  To direct and implement a strategy for external communication, advocacy and branding for Circomedia towards promoting it as a world class physical theatre and circus company

·  To develop and deliver an effective income generation and fundraising strategy that reflects Circomedia’s mixed funding base including contracts, sponsorship, trust funding and social enterprise

·  To work with the CEO, Artistic Director and city wide partnerships in co-ordinating Circomedia’s venue programming of high quality contemporary circus, dance and live art

Main Duties:

·  To provide effective line management and leadership for the development and income generation team (Outreach Manager, Agency Manager, Marketing Manager)

·  Lead responsibility for increasing the profile, visibility and international reach of Circomedia, including identifying and pro-actively engaging with new markets and audiences

·  To be key spokesperson for the company on publicity issues, and to provide the first point of contact for media enquiries

·  To develop and effective business strategy and maximize opportunities for income generation

·  To lead on all external development projects, including taking a lead on the communication, search and implementation phases of the new site project

·  To work with the CEO in helping to devise and implement a fundraising strategy, including sponsorship opportunities and new contracts and commissions

·  To act as external advocate for Circomedia, supporting the company in fostering and pro-actively developing good relations with its audiences and customers, including the general public and stakeholders; to attend network meetings and events as appropriate.

·  To co-ordinate effective programming strategy together with CEO and Artistic Director towards developing a world class programme of contemporary circus, live art and dance at St Paul’s Church

·  To work with the senior management team in effectively managing the organisation in a complex and fast passed environment, including budget planning and long term forecasting.

·  To attend Board meetings as appropriate

·  To ensure all Circomedia Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:

·  Significant experience of communications and marketing experience within the arts/voluntary/charity sector

·  Ability to work strategically with a range of stakeholders and foster partnership working

·  Experience of fundraising

·  A good understanding of business development within a mixed economy model

·  Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·  Good knowledge and understanding of the performing arts field

·  Proven management skills and a good team player

·  Good understanding of business finance and budget planning.

·  Ability to adapt to fast changing priorities and working environment

·  Knowledge of the local and regional arts sector

Desirable:

·  Experience of working within a social enterprise

·  Experience of programming/contract management within performing arts field
