Course description: This course will introduce you to the process of curriculum development from needs analysis to course evaluation. The readings will provide the basis for designing your own course developed as a group project. Course format will include reading-based discussions in whole class and small group settings, interactive teacher presentations, student presentations, activities based on readings, informal sharing of project proposals and workshop sessions for student projects.

Learning Objectives

·  demonstrate that context, learner needs, teaching beliefs, and constraints and resources are some of the factors that determine course design

·  design/adapt instruments to gather information for needs analysis

·  develop goals and outcomes based on needs analysis

·  design a 36-hour course based on goals and outcomes

·  prepare an assessment plan to assess student learning and evaluate the course

·  select, create and adapt materials appropriate to your course

·  describe one of the units in the course in detail

·  create four lesson plans
