Cereal Box Book Report Project
Purpose: Through this project you will creatively demonstrate your knowledge of the following concepts in relationship to your summer reading book: summary, character traits, plot, and theme.
Product: You have been enlisted to create a new line of cereal based on your summer reading book. Using a cereal box, your will follow the steps of the project to create the packaging for your soon to be best selling product.
Materials: You will need the following materials to complete your project correctly.
* Empty Cereal Box
* Paper to cover box
* Magazine, computer, or hand drawn images (for front of box and decoration)
* Project components (neatly handwritten or typed and printed)
* Scissors, glue, etc.
* Miscellaneous Decorations
Completed Project Components-- You must complete the worksheets in the packet and have them approved by your teacher before you begin building your final product. Individual due dates may apply to each piece.
Project Due Date-- Projects must be turned in on time or they will be subject to a lower grade (5 points off each day late).

Name for Cereal: Title should be original and it should be related to some aspect of your book. For example, a cereal brand based on Dr. Seuss’s “The Cat in the Hat” might be “Top Hats” because the Cat in the Hat wears a striped top hat or “Things 1 &2” because they are characters in the story.

Image to Represent Brand: Your cereal should have a mascot or logo that will set it apart from other brands. Many cereal’s have a character or image to represent their brand such as “Tony the Tiger” for Frosted Flakes, “Toucan Sam” for Fruit Loops, “Cornelius the Rooster” for Corn Flakes, or “Lucky Leprechaun” for Lucky Charms. Other cereals have distinct images like the multi-colored name on Life cereal or the recognizable black lettering of Cheerios.

For example, hearts almost always represent love, flowers could represent Spring, a cannonball might represent destruction, or a skull and crossbones may represent danger. Bonus: For up to 10 bonus points, you may include a “Just for Fun” section on the back of your cereal box. This could be a game like a crossword, word search, or puzzle related to your book. Alternatively, it could be a “Fun Facts” section where you give information about the author or facts about the setting or background information related to the story. In order to get points, your bonus section must be related to your book.
