Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time fixed term contract research position at the Centre for Research in Medical Devices (CÚRAM), National University of Ireland, Galway. The position is available for a 6 month period. This position is funded by Science Foundation Ireland and is available from November, 2015.

Organisation: The Centre for Research in Medical Devices (CÚRAM) is a national, SFI funded,€49.6m research centre that brings together researchers from NUI Galway, University College Dublin, Dublin City University, University of Limerick, University College Cork, Trinity College Dublin and Royal College of Surgeons Ireland. The prime objective for CÚRAM is to radically improve health outcomes for patients by developing innovative implantable ‘smart’ medical devices to treat major unmet medical needs. Implants will be designed and manufactured to respond to the body’s environment and to deliver therapeutic agents, such as drugs, exactly where needed. Cutting-edge science will develop devices using the very latest research from biomaterials, stem cells and drug delivery and the support of strong clinical collaborations, industry partners and hospital groups to enable rapid translation to the clinic. The centre will include almost 40 industry partners and support product development and the creation of new spin-out companies.

Job Description:The position is designed for the development, optimisation and evaluation of the efficacy of biomaterial constructs for inflammatory diseases using both in vitro and in vivo model systems. Candidates must be highly motivated and passionate about developing new products and have strong documentation, oral and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate should have expertise in as many of the following areas as possible: cell culture, inflammation, wound healing, molecular biology, cell biology, matrix biology, in vitro and in vivo assays, protein analysis, gene analysis, histology, immunohistochemistry and stereology. Previous experience in pre-clinical models is highly preferred.

Qualifications:

  • A PhD in inflammation or tissue regeneration would be preferred.
  • Experience with in vitro and in vivo models essential.
  • Experience with epithelial systems specifically bladder tissues preferred.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills essential.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and analytical skills are essential.

Salary: €23,876 Start date:November, 2015.
