Reports:
Update on Project
Ken visited Popcorn Park Zoo on Sunday and there are potentially two projects for us. For the unskilled, benches and a fence need to be painted. The fence needs to be power washed prior to painting and Ken will bring his power washer. For the skilled, a pump pit needs to be torn down and rebuilt. Ken gave a list of lumber needed to complete the project and it should be there on Saturday.
We will meet at 8:30-9 a.m. rain or shine!
District Dinner
District 7500 is having their Celebration Dinner on November 9. If anyone is interested in attending the cost is $30 and contact Tony D.
TomsRiverSunrise
The Toms River Sunrise is selling tickets for their 50/50. The tickets are $50. Jim will be purchasing two tickets for the members present.
Dictionaries
A discussion was held on the dissemination of dictionaries to the schools. It would be nice this coming spring if some of the members were present to give out the dictionaries. Also, Tony Ds brother is a dictionary collector and he may be interested in attending a meeting and giving us a history of the dictionary.
Holiday Dinner
The holiday dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, December 19, at 6 p.m. at the 6th Avenue Bistro on Fischer Boulevard. Tony D will get together with a couple of members to choose the menu for the evening.
Spaghetti Dinner
Tony D and Anita know someone at the PleasantPlainsBuilding on Silver Bay Road. The building is small and has a kitchen. Anita is checking it out.
International Project
Tony D read an article in Sports Illustrated by Mike Reilly, Nothing but Nets. The article is about the numbers of children and families dying from malaria. If they had nets, the reduction in malaria cases would be ~60%. The nets cost $4-6 and with shipping ~$10. The nets last on average about 10 years. He suggested that we explore purchasing nets as our International Project. All were in favor. It will be discussed at the next board meeting.
