Introduction

Upon your arrival to CEU, you receive a CEU computer account. This account authorizes you to use the following IT services: Logging in to CEU computers, accessing CEU e-mail mailbox, accessing Internet on CEU computers, using print/scan/photocopy functions, file services on common and private network drives, Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection from home computer. Your CEU account is active until you have an employment contract with CEU. In case you have your contract renewed, please ask your departmental coordinator to file a new registry form to IT office to make sure your account does not get disabled.

You can contact the IT Helpdesk with any computer related problems or questions. The phone extension of the helpdesk is #2000, and it operates workdays between 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Please note that between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. weekdays, and between 1 p.m. – 7 p.m. weekends we have limited helpdesk availability, however it should be reached via phone.

File service

All staff and faculty members receive 500 Megabytes of disk space to store their personal files on the network. Your personal files could be stored on drive P:\. Outside of the CEU network, you can reach the content of your P: drive through ftp.ceu.hu with your regular user name and Novell password.

You also have a Common drive named O:\ the content of which is shared with you by your department. If you would like to have access to subfolders on O:\ drive which your colleagues refer to but you do not see, or you run out of disk space, please write to . For more information on network drives, please check .

The network drives are being backed up continuously, the risk of data-loss is low. If something goes wrong, IT can restore previously deleted files and folders.

There is a local drive on CEU computers which can be accessed also, with a drive letter D:\. This drive is not being backed up, so please make sure you only use it for temporary storage of data, since IT Department cannot take responsibility in case of data loss.

Mail service

The mailbox size approved in our policy statement is 5 GB.

You can reach your emails from outside of CEU as well on website. For more information, please visit .

Print service

You can send the documents from your computers to any of the corridor printers (“Multigray” printer object amongst printers), however you will need your CEU ID card to retrieve the sent document. A short user guide is placed above all printers, please follow the instructions when printing or photocopying.

The default setting on all the printers is to print double-sided, however you can modify this setting on the settings page of the installed printer.
