Central District Youth Coordinator – Youth Engagement and Empowerment

Medical Care Development, Inc. (MCD), a nonprofit health services organization in collaboration with Healthy Communities of the Capital Area (HCCA), is accepting applications for a Project Coordinator working as a District Youth Coordinator for the Central Public Health District which includes Kennebec and Somerset Counties. The District Youth Coordinator (DYC) supports youth engagement programs and initiatives that build young people’s resilience and strengthen youth leadership on issues of public health, social justice, and restorative practices.

This position is responsible for liaising with the Central District Coordinating Council, school districts, and youth-serving community partners; forming and leading a public health youth policy board; supporting school and community-based youth leadership groups within the district; and co-facilitating district-level youth group and youth-adult partnership trainings as needed with Maine Youth Action Network’s (MYAN) statewide staff, youth, and adults. The District Youth Coordinator is a member of HCCA’s prevention team. We are searching for an energetic, flexible, and detail-oriented candidate with a conscientious work style. This part-time, 24 hour per week position requires some evening and weekend hours. Additional hours may be available from time to time; however, this is not a guarantee. This position is eligible for MCD’s benefit package.

This position is located at the HCCA office in Gardiner and is a grant-funded position with potential for renewal. This position requires a person with experience working with youth, knowledge of positive youth development as well as a keen attention to detail and follow through, the ability to educate and facilitate groups of all ages, and assure that grant deliverables and expectations, including evaluation and data collection requirements, are met.

Competencies among successful candidates are expected to be consistent with those identified by the Public Health Foundation Council on Linkages as Level II. This position requires flexibility and the ability to manage time and multiple tasks with little supervision. As this position will include travel, a valid Maine driver’s license and reliable transportation are necessary.

Successful applicants will be energetic, self-starters who are able to function comfortably in a team environment or independently and relate well to co-workers, schools, organizations, youth, and the public. A Bachelor’s degree in community health, education, or health-related field along with a minimum of 1 year of experience in youth engagement and empowerment is preferred. Candidates with three to five years of experience in youth engagement and empowerment may also be considered. Exceptional writing, proficient interpersonal communication skills, and demonstrated cultural competence are essential.
