Dear Head Teacher

Celebrate Children’s Book Week with Pip the Poet and Donavan the rap poet at Bradford Libraries

We have children’s poet Philip Burton (aka Pip the Poet) visiting Bradford Libraries during Children’s Book Week Oct 7th – 11th 2013. Philip has written hundreds of children’s poems, which can be found in many children’s anthologies such as Read Me Out Loud edited by Paul Cookson and Nick Toszek. He offers a fun poetry show, encouraging children to think about and enjoy poetry. He is a retired primary head teacher himself and since retiring at 50 has performed to hundreds of schools. He will be reading from his new book of poetry called The Treasure Shop, which he will also be selling for the special Children’s Book Week price of £6 (RRP £8). Children will be able to have copies signed by Pip.

We are offering six sessions at: Wibsey Library; Children’s Library Park & Read on Centenary Square; Ilkley Library; Wyke Library; Thornbury Library and Eccleshill Library. For each session there are places for two classes (although some are for groups of 15 max - see booking table). We will offer one class per school. The sessions are suitable for Y3 or Y4 and are free of charge.

We also have rap poet Donavan. He offers an energetic performance, focusing on the power of words with active participation from the children. His poetry encourages awareness of people from different cultures and the world around us as well as the value of respect for ourselves and others. His latest book of poetry is called Rappama. We are offering three sessions at: Shipley Library; Manningham Library and Keighley Library. For each session there are places for two classes. We will offer one class (30 max) per school. The sessions are suitable for Y5, Y6 and Y7 and are free of charge.

If you are interested in booking one of the sessions above please fill in the form overleaf. The deadline for applications is Monday 23rd September.Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Your school will be sent a letter of confirmation if you have been successful in securing a place.
