Honors English 9 (ENG 121) Application

Thank you for your interest in the Honors English program at Cedarcrest High School. Selection into the class is competitive. Please note that participation in the 8th grade Pre-Honors course is neither a prerequisite nor a guarantee for placement into Honors English 9 at the high school. Make sure you complete all of the following pieces as incomplete applications will not be considered. It is recommended that all writing prompts be typed and double-spaced.

  1. Confidential Teacher Recommendation Form: This must be completed by your current, eighth grade language arts teacher and NOT your sixth or seventh grade language arts teacher.
  2. Sample Essay: Of the pieces of literature (novel, short story, or poem) you have read this year, which did you find most interesting, important, or significant? This should be a text of literary merit that you have read outside of class. Identify the title and author of the piece and then explain in detail why it was so meaningful for you. Approaches you might take include analyzing your personal connection to the piece, exploring important issues raised by the text, or examining how the text either challenged or reaffirmed your view(s) of life. Be sure to use supporting evidence from your personal experience and the text in your response. (500-800 words)
  3. A Self-Addressed, Stamped Envelope: Letters of acceptance and rejection for the Honors English 9 class will be mailed directly to students via the U.S. Post Office.

Completed applications are due to yourTOLTEnglish teacher by 2:30 on Friday March 9, 2018.

No late applications will be accepted.
