CCBA Public Comments

Public comments for CCBA were solicited two ways. First a public hearing was held in Bushenyi Uganda. Second, a series of emails were sent to stakeholders.

Public Meeting

The Public Meeting was held between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM on 20 January, 2012 at the Kirigime Guest House in Kabale, Uganda. Notice was given in leading Uganda papers as follows:

·  New Vision (a daily national paper) : notice on 17 January, 2012, in English.

·  Entatsi (a regional weekly publication): notice on 14 January, 2012, in Runyankore/Rukiga.

TIST Program to hold Public Meeting

Clean Air Action Corporation (CAAC) announces its intent to validate and verify the International Small Group and Tree Planting Program (TIST) under the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Alliance (CCBA) standards. To receive the validation and verification, CAAC must demonstrate, among other things, that TIST is beneficial to climate, community and biodiversity. CAAC has submitted a Project Description (PD) and a Project Implementation Report (PIR) to Environmental Services Inc, a CCBA certified auditor. The documents are available on line at:

A public stakeholders meeting will be held between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM on 20 January, 2012 at the Kirigime Guest House in Kabale, Uganda where comments will be taken. In addition, comments may be submitted up to 08 February 2012 to CCBA by clicking on "SUBMIT COMMENTS" at:

Organization: Great Lakes Initiative on Environment and Development-a community based organization in Kabale District.

TIST Uganda programs have made considerable progress in Kabale as far as tree planting is concerned. However there is still a lot of room /potential to expand on these programmes. Keep up the efforts to bring more farmers on board and hence help improve the environment further.

(a) TIST is impressive, as it promotes environmental protection .it helps in provision of firewood through tree pruning and pollarding .Tree planting sustains soil cover.

(b) TIST Leadership should essentially dissemination of information about TIST programmes to political leadership within the areas of TIST jurisdiction.

(a) It has done a commendable work in motivating tree planters and prevented deforestation.

(b) People in the local communities have benefited by getting income through labour and fire wood from pruned branches.

I support TIST and appreciate it very much because it helps me get school fees for my children. The children get scholastic needs. One of them has finished teaching course as his profession at Bukinda Teachers College. Farmers are appreciating it. TIST is good as we have gained friendship and mutual love. Most of the benefits are for farmers.

I support TIST. With conservation farming the following have realized: Soil fertility has improved, food security has also improved. Tree planting has given jobs to our youths, controlled soil erosion, mitigated desertification, improved biodiversity and increased herbal medicine. Our climatic conditions have improved. My nursery bed has increased viable and sufficient seedlings available to farmers. Learning by doing has improved our societies and awareness in environmental protection.

I support and appreciate the services rendered by TIST Uganda. Trees have controlled environmental degradation and many people have gained and increased on their incomes. TIST Uganda has promoted internal and external linkages (friendship).

I support TIST. TIST has motivated communities to plant trees in our region thereby improving climate conditions of this area. Trees planted on hill sides have helped control soil erosion and landslides previously common and heavily destructive to human life and property. This has also improved eco-diversity in the region. Social Economic benefits include employment to the youths, wood fuel from pruning which are also used as stakes for climbing beans. Increase on the amount of the money paid for each tree would motivation to farmers for sustainability of the program.

I support TIST. It has trained us in CF hence improved food productivity with lower costs of productions. We sell of surplus of the crops and get income. Tree planting through TIST activities has improved environmental conditions. I support the CCBA standards.

(a) We have enjoyed the good results as TIST members in our group Zentaro Tree Planting Group.

(b) TIST has increased our cash earnings in selling tree thinning as firewood.

(c) We have experienced improved environmental conditions with climate change.

(d) Soil erosion has been curbed down; birds are now attracted in the area.

I am requesting TIST Leadership to continue helping to improve environment.

(a) I really thank TIST program in Uganda especially in Kanungu because it has created employment to the youths and farmers have received incentives worth good money which has helped them pay school fees for their children.

(b) The program has encouraged farmers to practice conservation farming which has enabled them to achieve good harvest after seasons.

(c) Tree planting has reduced the incidences of land slides mostly in hilly areas; I support TIST for CCBA standards.
